This is why I will never be a fan of journalism. Having a surface level knowledge or researching something only on it's surface leads to misleading conclusions or remarks about subject at the matter. It just proves how shallow point of view or ability to pay attention of the journalist was when they made a bold statement about One Piece - ''Luffy actually fails big time -and as a resulft his older brother dies''. - Luffy was SUCCESSFUL to set Ace free. He overcame shitloads of hardships to do so and he had support of whole pirate world and old generation. Ace threw away his life and effort of the people that came to save him due to pride he had and affinity towards Whitebeard, he just couldn't stomach Akainu's provocations and him trashtalking the great pirate that Whitebeard was in the eyes of Ace ''Whitebeard is the great pirate that shaped this era Ace said. Ace lost the clash, got burned which caused an opening for Akainu to attack Luffy in which Ace gave his life to protect Luffy with his own body. You can't call it a ''FAILURE because Luffy did succeed to set Ace free. Ace was a proud pirate and he couldn't let the disrespect of his father figure go unpunished. Ace died defending people that he loved, that is not a failure, he can be called a martyr, he died as a free man, and most importantly a changed man cause he finally wanted to live, but sadly his flame extinguished. R. I. P Ace.

Goku going Super Saiyan was like a big bang in the anime world. It wasn't just a cool power-up; it changed the game entirely. Suddenly, every anime fan wanted that moment of intense transformation and power. It showed us that characters could grow and evolve in ways we hadn't seen before, making us all feel a bit more connected to their journeys. And let's be real, seeing Goku with his golden hair and glowing aura was like witnessing magic on screen. It's a moment that stuck with us, inspiring countless other shows and becoming a symbol of the anime community worldwide. It's not just a scene; it's a part of our collective anime-loving hearts.

Keep in mind, number 4 on this list managed to beat number 2 on here in terms of highest grossing Japanese film of all time. It is not a small feat for something to beat an absolute legend from the 2000s, so it goes to show that there’s something special about it if it was able to achieve that feat!
Also, RIP Porygon and its whole episode; w;

first epiosde of pokemon/ash gets pikachu was an important moment because back then nobody outside of japan even knew what anime was, everybody thought was just another cartoon and went on to be the most famous and popular anime in the world.
true are better anime that people enjoy more but none will have the impact that pokemon has had on the world

reply

good demon slayer got records but wouldnt say its an important moment in anime history, before that lots of anime films got shown round the world on the big screen
remember being a kid and going to watch the first pokemon movie at the cinema and was all everybody was talking about

Ace dying is still the most impactful death in anime not just because of Ace being a great character but more important how hard Luffy worked for hundreds of chapters to save him and failed at the very end, it was one of the biggest failures of a protagonist ever.

Surely Goku turning super Saiyan for the first time is number one I'm just here to see what picks 2 thru 10 is had to edit this I'm not going to ruin it but it isn't number one but the ones after it I can accept as being higher

This is legitimately one of the best lists WatchMojo has ever done. Interesting premise devoid of cliches or retreads we've seen a million times before, and the rankings are exceedingly accurate. Well done Ashley.

You guys need to fact check better. Spirited away won the Oscar in 2002, and it was only the second time that vest animated feature was even a category, so while a good moment, it wasn't as ground breaking

You either have to be first, best, or different. Loretta Lynn
Or in the case of the Porygon episode, accidentally put several hundred school buses' worth of kids in the hospital.

First time goku went super saiyan I lost my shit my parents freaked out that I suddenly started screaming and flailing around in awe of what just happened. They didn't get how awesome it was

Huh One piece is a terrible anime to use for that Ace death shows its not always sunshine Eh what about the other anime that go more in depth then just one character dieing

Neon Genesis Evangelion also has important moments.
Cause it shows how psychological, depressing and even disturbing Anime could be the more you keep going and watching.

Spirited Away mesmerized me when I first saw it. The animation was beautiful and the characters were interesting. Thank you Hayao Miyazaki for creating this wonderful movie.

Spirited Away was the highest grossing Animated movie for 2 decades until Demon Slayer: Mugen Train movie came out. And then, it was surpassed by Jujutsu Kaisen 0.

Everyone (including you, WatchMojo) blames Porygon! But you even said it yourself, that it was Pikachu's attack that was accompanied by the flashing lights!

Aizen stopping Ichigo’s theme with his finger should’ve been on this list. No other Anime antagonist has been able to stop the protagonists music.
