we’re counting down our picks for the heavy metal albums that could serve as solid primers for anyone skeptical of the genre. Our countdown of metal albums for people who don't like metal music includes Appetite for Destruction, Vulgar Display of Power, British Steel, Meliora, The Number of the Beast, and more! Which metal album do YOU think could convert a non-believer

Who are these people who don't like metal that I can convert by playing bands with screaming singers and songs with Satanic references Is this supposed to work in the South I had Run by Foo Fighters played at work and you should have heard my co-workers lose it. They're a Satanic band! Listen to that lead singer scream!
The closest I could ever get my classmates or co-workers to listening to metal was Bon Jovi. There are a lot of people your list is NEVER going to convert.

I've never considered Van Halen to be Metal. Rock Absolutely! But not Metal. My violent older brother was a huge Heavy Metal fan so I hated it. Then I moved 500kms away and met Ron who introduced me to many things including Motley Crue, Dr Feelgood specifically, and Ozzy, Blizzard of Ozz. Ron was gone in months but, 35 years later, I'm still a fan of Metal and still know all the words to every song on Dr Feelgood and Bizzard of Ozz.

Some other options:
- Nirvana, Nevermind - I'm not even a fan of Nirvana, but you can't deny that an album that successful can convert someone.
- Queensryche, Empire - Similar Vein to Dream Theatre; progressive metal that is still widely understandable.
- Evanescence, Fallen - Came to my mind when Nightwish was brought up. Once again, I'm not even a fan of Evanescence.

Alice Cooper's Poison would convert some people. Definitely, No Rest for the Wicked and No More Tears from Ozzy. Any album from Maiden. You will laugh, but Europe album Final Countdown, is a place to start to enjoy this never-ending awesome metal road. Pantera or Rage Against the Machine are awesome, but it's not for the civilians--yet.

I'm not sure if Shinedown qualifies as metal, but my 2 favorite albums of theirs are Sound of Madness and Threat to Survival.
Disturbed also has some great songs (most are from the album Immortalized): The Light, Who Taught You How to Hate, and. the cover song that is actually better than the original (imo) Sound of Silence.

Appetite for destruction is a HARD ROCK/HAIR album, Guns n Roses are NOT METAL, they have 1 metal song, Garden of eden. The Black album is a STADIUM ROCK/Hard rock album, the only metal song is Through the never. ALICE IN CHAINS IS GRUNGE, Ghost- SHOCK ROCK/GOTHIC ROCK. gee watchmojo, know anything about music

I doubt any of these are going to convert die-hard Air Supply fans. Though, that's a tough task.
Dare you attempt a list of the top 20 soft rock albums for those who despise soft rock
Something along the lines of the compilation '70s Party Classics/Killers, but without brainwashing them.

People who do not like Metal music, probably does not like electric guitar or the drums either. Here are some albums by Metal albums you might like:
Sonata Arctica - Acoustic Adventures Volumes 1 & 2
Helloween - Unarmed
Elvenking - Two Tragedy Poets. And a Caravan of Weird Figures)

I would add the album Ziltoid The Omniscient by Devin Townsend. It's one of the few heavy metal albums that's both comedic and kid friendly fun. Who wouldn't love a story about an intergalactic alien who's search for the ultimate cup of coffee to help power his omnidimensional spaceship
reply

For Megadeth, I would have chosen Countdown to Extinction only because that was Megadeth's commercial breakthrough. I love Megadeth so I'm just happy that their mentioned.
RIP - Layne Staley
System of a Down- Toxicity was far better and more accessible.

21: 07 Of course, Watchmojo had to pick Metalilca's well-known album.
The Black Album is good but, for people who aren't into the metal genre, I would recommend Ride The Lightning or, my personal favorite Metallica album, Master of Puppets.

When Waking the Fallen is A7Xs best album by far. I just think after they signed with WB and had a falling out with them, theyve become awful and experimental metal is almost as bad as today's top 40 overproduced sugar pop garbage

Quiet Riot’s Metal Health and Twisted Sister’s Stay Hungry were the first two Metal albums I ever bought. They should’ve been included, especially since Metal Health was the first Metal album to be #1 on the pop charts.

AWFUL LIST
Better choices:
AC/DC- Fly on the Wall
Carnivore- 1st album
Threshold- their entire catalog
Dream Theater- Awake
Fates Warning- X
Tesla- Mechanical Resonance
Symphony X- Iconoclast

One album I’d put on the list is the one you played during the outro - Opeth’s Blackwater Park. Opeth is the band that opened up the world of death metal vocals to me.
Also, where is Dio’s Holy Diver

reply

Great job on the list however I have a few honorable mentions.
Tool. Aenima
Korn. Self titled or Follow the leader.
Sleep Token. Take me back to Eden.
Soundgarden. Super Unknown

reply

Metallica has some great songs from their discography: Enter Sandman from the band’s self-titled album, One from _And Justice for All, _ and Orion from _Master of Puppets. _

There is already metal for people who hate metal; its called mainstream metal
And if you do like metal,
Then you hate mainstream metal and call it fake metal because it is

reply

Apparently after over 40 years of listening to it, I don't understand what it means Please stop making these countdowns. You have absolutely no clue what heavy metal is
reply

All of this is true, except for Vulgar Display Of Power. You have to get into metal way more to listen to that album. I own it, and trust me, it is NOT for everyone.
