Hairdresser reacts to relaxer treatment (satisfying) Shana: This video made me very sad. Three beautiful women destroyed their hair. Yeah yeah, I know it's their hair and let them live, but that was painful to watch. The 1st video ended with limp and lifeless hair; a silk press would have given more body. Yes a perm keeps the hair straight to hold the style, but no bounce. The 2nd video was a total fail. That texturizer didn't take at all and her curl pattern was destroyed in the process. A wash and go would've given her a better result. The 3rd video, same as the first, left her hair looking limp. Natural hair is low maintenance af, curls aren't difficult, but dealing with a perm and the upkeep is. Washing the relaxer out is process too and it stinks. I came up in the 80s and 90s trust I had my share of perms and regret it all. Do you, but please think it over.

Im scheduled for a relaxer on 4/1/22 after about 10 years of being natural. Im SO excited-my natural hair is not growing bc Im constantly manipulating it because it needs daily hydration and restyling every time I wanna leave the house. I end up putting in crotchet styles because its easier for me to just get up and go. I got a silk press on 3/9/2022 and the seed was planted, lol. I didnt have to manipulate my hair AT ALL for 2 weeks. It was glorious.
Being natural, I learned how to care for and listen to my hair. Now, I cannot wait to put all of that to use and grow healthy, straight hair. Especially now that I can afford to see my stylist every 10 weeks.

my mom used to relax my hair when i was younger and she did it for years like till i was 10 because her family's is a lot straighter and she didn't know how else to work with my hair. it changed the texture of my hair so much and my hair broke off and my hair went from being almost to my butt to being above the shoulder. my mom literally felt so bad. my mom and sister both have 2a hair while i have 3c/4a but idk why. but my hair has grown out and its now a couple inches down my back when its straight

I got my first relaxer when I was around 8 yrs old. My natural hair is extremely curly, and I honestly think my mother was very uneducated when it came to taking care of/maintaining my hair. I'm now a mother of 3, a boy and 2 girls. My girls have actually made me realize that my natural hair is beautiful, and I've been relaxer-free for about 5 or 6 years now. I did a big chop on my hair in 2018, and my hair has now grown out to shoulder length. It's taken some time, but I LOVE my hair.

I like the fact that he wants to learn about my type of hair as a black woman. My prayer is that one day I can walk to any beauty shop black or white and be able to get my natural hair done. For us to move forward and break down walls we have to be open to other cultures learning about things that once was taboo. Like our hair I feel the more other culture know the more we can embrace our differences and break down walls of prejudice.

My daughter done a relaxer on her hair and she said NOPE! NEVER AGAIN! She likes her natural curly hair and that she much to just straighten her for. I was so against it cuz she had amazing beautiful curls and I was like noooo! But she was grown and it was her choice. She lived and learned and shes like do not relax your hair to her friends if they mention it.

As a black woman,
Girl #2 is wrong. You NEVER want to apply heat before putting in a relaxer. It will burnnnn like no tomorrow.
You do start with your roots however then work your way up.
Relaxers are time consuming correct. You have it on too long you will get different results as well as chemical burns that can cause irreversible damage.

You absolutely do not have to comb a relaxer. The chemical does the work for you. Working it through with your hands is sufficient. (People DO comb it through all the time, you have to be very careful) You can actually stretch the hair too far while combing taking much needed elasticity from the hair causeing breakage later during coming and styling.

I was 4 when my grandma started taking me to get relaxers, I went natural in highschool for health reasons and have been a 3c curly girl now for a decade, before I went natural I didn't even know what my natural texture felt like! I love it but I love these transformations too these women look amazing.

Im a black woman with 4c hair. Every time I look at my hair or touch it I cry because I hate it so much and it feels disgusting. I know everyone is talking shit about the second video but you dont know how nice it is to even run your fingers through your hair when at times that is an impossible task

I always relaxed my hair since i was 16 yrs. old but since i know, i can straightening my hair in a another way, i stopped using relaxer.
Because when my Curls came back, i always needed a HairCut because my hair was really broken.
Love my Afro hair, but sometimes i wish, i have straight hair

I'm unsure of how someone rinsing their hair at home can rinse one quadrant at a time. if you are rising in the shower or the tub, wtihout being able to see it - the expectation that one could replicate at home the amount of rinse control that a separate person has in the salon sink is kind of.
