I tried to do hair like a victorian woman (i went insane) Karen: Brad Brad Brad! They didn't have HAIR EXTENSIONS THEN? Well, not syntethic ones, but there was a whole industry of creating hair switches. When you were an adolescent and just about to become officially grown up you cut your hair and sent it off to be made up into various switches.
Like Dolly Parton said I don't know how they do my hair 'cause I'm never there. You also forgot the pomade. Pomade made the style work, giving the hair gloss and not frizz. Also they went to bed in rag curls so when their maid came to do their hair the waves were already there. They would use a horsehair pouf thing on top to give it height.

there is so many fun historical hair styles to play with Regency, Elizabethan, Gibson Girls, and medieval. And yes hair pieces were a big thing through out history. I would actually love to see you tackle historical hair styles. and fun fact most of these hair styles have written instructions on how to do them. You could even colab with some historical customer You tubers like lopies and bernade baner.

They may not have extentions BUT they had real human pin in hair for the the curly rolls around the back bottom ends. And don't forget that victorians used hair receivers that collected from a brush or comb for later use as a volume adder that makes things more puffy with head hair smoothed over the ball of dead hair.

I heard somewhere that women would take a socks and put oats or grass or cut hair and use it to bulk up the hair. Also, consider their hair washing options. Women washed their hair a lot less. The oils built up to provide a thicker foundation and boar's bristle type brushes give a different finish to the hair.

First one worked out great. the second one. in the photo, the sides were pulled back before wrapping the braid, and then of course the back had more ringlets. Very ambitious! Definitely not a DIY updo. Nice for weddings and special events, theres $ in mastering these kinds of styles for events.

Haha oh honey, the Victorians were LIVING for extensions! They've existed for a long ass time and in many cultures, for example out of horse hair or human hair. For as long as there have been elaborate hairdos, there have been people who cheated a little to get the perfect look.

I have a photo of my great grandma from the Victorian era. It wasnt overly fussy. The curls were done with rag rollers. My nana once gave me ringlets using rag rollers. They also had hair that was a lot longer. Some women had hair down to their knees or longer

Hey Brad! I love the try and I 100% think you should try it again. There are many books and videos on how these hair styles were created because it was and art In high society. I would love to see you try it again with a bit more research: )

dude, they never cut their hair. they just let it grow -- to the frickin' floor. they just had a lot of hair & that's why they put it up, to get it out of the way, while still looking pretty. brad, you're just a silly little goose.

Okay, if I knew that the Devil would welcome me in hell looking like Brad in this video, I would montero my ass on that pole so fast my hair would be blow dried straighter than an arrow by the time I land there

No hair extenstions? Oh Brad.
In Young Victoria there is accually a scene where the hair extensions are removed from the haircut of Victorias mother. That blew my mind too the first time I saw that.

Someone should mention that little fringe was actually a very short bang that they pin curled to look like that. Later they actually brought that fringe all the way from ear to ear and a little further back.

Oh Brad, I'm an art historian & you're breaking my heart, baby! It's ok. Make it up to us by doing a Renaissance hair video. ;) - Just don't shave your eyebrows. That wasn't a good look.
