When I was a kid, in the 90’s the stylists used to use the frosting caps for the old ladies. They would all be lined up with their caps reading their magazines my mom and I used a cap once or twice when she first started learning to do my hair for me. She would do neat rows on each side and then a neat row on each side of my part. It used to actually look cute. It kind of made a 70’s Sun kissed look. Over the years we’ve graduated to foils, but she’s always been very meticulous. (Watching your videos actually! We’re big fans) and I’ve learned to do my daughter’s hair now too, (not using a cap lol but foils) EDIT: we used to rinse the hair out with the cap on, and then gently de tangle and take it off. Hope this helps someone!

Dear Brad, I love your videos! I have been bleaching my hair blonde for many many years. I only do the roots and I use ion permanent color (the lightest shade) with 40 developer. I leave it on for 60 minutes and it comes out perfect every time! Then I do not need to bleach it over and over. One and done. Maybe it’s just my hair, but I feel like using 20 or 30 developer and only leaving it on for 20 minutes or so that it will not get super blonde and they have to keep doing it again and again! Hugs to you!

I had highlights done in the early 80s with one of those caps. Although the version my hairdresser had was more like a thick swimming cap My hair was quite short, just below the base of my skull, which probably helped with more accurate spacing of the highlights. It was pretty painful getting the hair through those holes, even though it was so short, long hair would probably be torture. The amount of effort wasn't worth the outcome, and I was glad when my hairdresser discovered foils

I was at Sally's a few weeks ago, and was curious about the scent of your super gloss, cause you always talk about your signature scent in your color products. I may be one of the few, but, it immediately transported me back to when I spent a month in the hospital. It smelled like a hospital lol. Does it smell bad No, not necessarily. Does it take me back to a traumatizing part of my life Why yes, yes it does lol.

I'm not bleaching it or using heat until it's all healed.
Does. does she know that hair isn't like a living thing Like. damage done to it is damage done forever. Hair doesn't heal. It just grows out and we can cut off the damaged parts, but a fried chunk of hair will never heal. It will just grow out and the new parts of the strands will have not been damaged yet.

I used a cap regularly for about 2 years with the help of my partner who is really bad with everything hair related and I had really good results. But obviously you don't get the same stands everything, so my hair became not more and more blond over time. Since I didn't want this I colored everything dark blond at some point.

is there any reason why you wouldn't just wash your bleached hair out with the bleach cap still on at least until the hair unclumps a bit and loosens Like i know wet compromised hair isn't great to pull on but it feels like you'd at least have a better chance of gently wiggling the cap off once any dried bleach is released

My MIL is a hairdresser. She does my highlights with a highlight cap. Don't know how she does the root touch-ups and gets the right strands everytime, but she is awesome. She washes out the bleach, conditions and lightly detangles may hair before getting the highlight cap off, so that isn't an issue either.

As an 80's teenager, I can tell you the secret to removing the hell-cap. Wash the hair and put a ton of conditioner on the hair BEFORE trying to take that thing off. And if you can get your hands inside the cap, it can be stretched and torn. We used them, but we didn't pull hair through every hole. Lol

I just want to flex that thanks to your videos, I was very successful in my bleaching attempt last year (as seen in my profile pic. So successful that my stylist did not believe me when I told him I did it myself. He kept saying, it’s okay if you went to another stylist, I won’t get mad

Those highlight caps can be the devil! Luckily I’ve done my moms so many times I know exactly how to do it without leaving spots because you can’t leave one single loop of hair in any of the strands you’re pulling through the cap! It is possible but very time consuming

doing your own foils is hard but it's doable. honestly I think this hair stuff comes easy to real artists. we have the eye and the dexterity in our hands. People who are not inclined to be artistic probably are the ones to tend to screw it up hardcore. lol.

I’ll literally never bleach my hair when wet again. The water in my dorms like 6 years ago must’ve had metals in it and I ended up with a chemical burn and my hair was falling out and my scalp hurt like hell. We’re all good now tho!

I would think the strategy for the cap would be to start from the crown. Otherwise you will pull the bottom of the top hair through the lower holes. Also Why Not Rinse THE HAIR BEFORE TAKING OFF THE CAP!
