Today were going to be removing Andreas nails and Im going to go through how I do this. Were going to start by using a small amount of acetone to remove the hair dye from her nails because Andrea dyes her hair - a client can do this to themselves if they need to. For the actual removal, Im going to use some nippers to clip the sides of the crystals and pop them off. Im then going to use a tip cutter to remove the length. On any nails where the cutter does fit, use a pair of nippers and cut one side to pop the length off. Im then going to use an electric file, you could use a coarse hand file, and remove most of the bulk of the nail. Were going to do a little test, and on one hand were going to do my normal technique, and on the other were going to see if the Gel Removal Wraps work on acrylic - they are not meant for acrylic though. For the first hand, Im going to cut a lint free pad to fit each nail - youll only need 1 or 2 pads, soak it in acetone and then wrap the whole fingertip tightly in foil. Im then going to follow the instructions for the wraps. After 10 minutes Im going to check them. Im going to ease off anything thats melted away and use a 180 grit file to help ease it off a bit more. Any nails that still have product on, Im going to put the foil and pad back on for a bit. The gel remover packs have done something but it hasnt worked quite as well as the foil - but itt not meant for this so its not disappointing. If you do use these, you will need to re-soak the pad in acetone and pop it on for a bit longer, theyll definitely work if you dont have any foil handy. Ill finish with buffing and shaping the nail and then use some cuticle oil to rehydrate the nails. suzanne duff: Would love to see what you would do with a client that has thin brittle nails after acrylic removal. Building back strength and length of the natural nail.
