I'm back with my personal dermatologist Dr. Julie Russak to continue with our Dear Derm series! In this video we talk about how to layer skincare products. With so many products out on the market it's easy to confuse what order to use your products in. Dr. Russak breaks down how to think about layering and what to avoid when using multiple products. She gives us advice on what's okay and you'll learn how to layer products that are similar just by texture alone! How many products do you use? What products do you use? Do you use different products in the morning versus the night? Do you feel like you don't really know what you're doing when it comes to application? Do you mix and match brands? How do you educate yourself on skincare? Let me know in the comments below as I am super curious what you're doing and what you're thinking when handling skincare! Dr. Russak tells us if the order of which you apply skincare matters, if more than 1 serum is to many, and how to layer when using a sheet mask! I am curious what temperature water do you wash your face with? I am also wondering if you all have any secrets or methods on how you apply products to your face? I know people say upward motions or patting and I wanted to know what you all do?! Dr. Russak also clarified whether or not to apply products to a wet or dry face and I think her answer will also help you all dial in your routines as it helped me with mine! I loved this episode with Dr. Russak as it really helped me understand more about skincare and my own routine and skin. She is always so helpful and fun and this conversation was one of my favorites! I hope you all enjoy this episode and tune in for our next episode of the Dear Derm series! Let me know in the comments below if you find this video helpful and what you learned from it!

Thank you Emily & Dr Russak for this very informative video. Sometimes, I find buying skincare a complete minefield. One thing I wanted to mention is that some people live in homes that are too dry or humid and I think this can have a detrimental effect on the skin. I recently bought a wall hygrometer (measures dry/damp in the home) & was surprised that my slightly dry home was affecting my skin! I think diet, dehydration, stress & hormones are also important factors in what your skin looks like.

Hi Emily! Thank you for another video :)
What does she think about using the biosilk therapy with pure coconut oil on face? Also what are the most common ingredients in skin products that could cause allergic reactions to sensitive skin? Most skincare products I buy cause little white bumps and I-ve always wondered what could be the cause? lol
Take care!!

How can we measure the correct ph of each product? Is there a number in total of ph we should calculate of all products that we use every day? I hope my question makes sense -

so helpful, thank you!! can she tell us how we know what brands are good for our skin or not? Like can I buy the CeraVe retinol or should I buy the Skin Ceuticals one?

Could you give examples of good layering with the more difficult ingredients like retinols?
I'm always so scared to layer it with anything else.

This type of video is great! I really found the one that stated running or very rigorous exercise may deplete the skin of proteins

So many good questions about skincare we rarely focus on (like time in between products, mixing formulas, water evaporation...)
