Idk if anyones gonna read this but Ill type it anyways so maybe it can help someone. I was 510 weighing at around 205 with 33% bf and did not enjoy life and Im happy to say that in 9 months I am now 173 with 19% body fat and gonna continue until I reach my ideal body fat percentage to my liking. Food is the biggest part of losing weight. You will never outwork the food you eat. Started off counting macros (yes its annoying but seeing what you eat helps keep track, went high on my proteins (0. 8- qgram per body weight is ideal) and reduced my calories thats it. Still had carbs and my fats and my calories were at 1700 calories a day. I starter strength training 4 times a week and now its at 5. The hardest part tbh is just the beginning but you have to force the motivation to continue eating clean and etc. the gym right now feels fun and is a staple and so is my new found diet. Dont think of it as a diet btw cause that automatically translates to a temporary thing. The number one thing about losing weight is consistency. Consistency+hard work at the gym+decent diet=weight loss. As simple as that.

I can see why people like simple solutions to common problems, but a monotonous diet consisting of things you call diet foods aren't sustainable (lifetime sustainable. What tends to work long term is a decent variety of food you genuinely consider delicious. A good way to do this is to make healthier versions of the normal foods you cook. Healthy food is quite a controversial term, does it mean low carb/fat? Well, if your goals are related to body composition, making foods high in protein and low calorie dense would work for most people. (protein is awesome because it really keeps you full) Doesn't matter how many carbs/fats there are imo, you can't mess with thermodynamics. Side note, cardio burns way more calories per given period of time. The increase in rmr due to muscle gain is overestimated. 10lbs of muscle contributes to only 300 calories a day, which is not bad (if you don't mind lifting for years)

Thank you for this. One of my 2020 goals is to eat more real food for protein instead of whey powder tilapia didn't even cross my mind. I also try and be flexible with my diet for social eating; the psychological health benefit of sharing a meal and having a good conversation outweighs the negatives a few carbs. The beano thing is interesting. I eat a lot of cruciferous veggies and don't have gas issues, and when I have beans no problem either. But if I eat a lot of bread, I become the Hindenburg (oh, the humanity. Perhaps gut-biome or gut-health as a topic for a future ep.

For me, the hardest part when I try to diet is the fact that I live with 3 other people (my parents and my brother) and they eat different food and we eat at the same time and I start CRAVING what they eat. On top of that my parents buy my brother snacks and I can't help myself when I see him eating them. Also, when I'm a bit hungry, I open the fridge to get some of my food, but when I see all the other, better tasting, better feeling food, the hell with my diet

Power training is great for your overall healthy, but you should definitely consider doing more shoulders exercises to help build out your upper body and give it more presences. As your chest, legs, and arms looks great, your shoulder is lacking behind and I can tell this by your slopping transition from your big arms to you flat shoulders. Keeping it up, I hope you don't take this to heart, but do take it into consideration for building a proportionate looking body.

I have a ghetto home gym too with rusty barbells, nobody understands us adam. I think the research is pretty clear that carbohydrates obviously don't have any direct effect on body-fat, but rather many indirect effects which obviously do help (behavior change, fullness, energy levels, no crazy insulin spike. I think most people should have calories as their number 1 priority, but eating less carbs won't hurt and will probably make your diet more sustainable.

Adam, I urge you to read up on the use of forage fish in feeding farmed fish. Tilapia can be more sustainable. Unfortunately, many are fed forage fish(anchovy, sardine, pilchard) meal at a very unsustainable ratio. Dont be afraid of sardinesI appreciate that you detail going low carb instead of no carb. I do something similar. I'm 30 and eat maybe a half cup worth of cooked rice/buckwheat a day. I just toss in a handful of fruit from time to time.

Hey Adam. I'm sorry to rain on your parade but I wanted to inform you that tilapia is one of the dirtiest farmed fish that you can eat. They contain alot of toxins and pathogens. The way they are farmed and what they are fed create a a lack of oxygen within the ponds, so the farmers feed them growth hormones. A good alternative are Swai, or since you live close to florida you should be able to find lionfish for cheap.
