Malted milk coffee cake Recipe, makes 9 slices For the cake: 1. 5 sticks (170g) butter 2 eggs 2. 25 (270g) cups flour 2 teaspoons baking powder 1 cup (140 mL) buttermilk (can use equal parts regular milk and yogurt or sour cream instead) vanilla 1 cup (200g) brown sugar (or white sugar + dab of molasses) 1/2 cup (60g) malted milk 1/2 teaspoon salt (if using unsalted butter) For the streusel: 1/2 stick (60g) butter 1/2 cup (60g) flour 1/2 cup (100g) sugar 1/2 cup (60g) malted milk 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon salt (just a pinch if using salted butter) Take out two sticks of butter (130g, total, the two eggs and the buttermilk and let them all come up to room temperature. If you don't want to weight, you can at least warm up the butter on very low power in the microwave until it's just soft, but not melted. Heat oven to 350 F/180 C, reduce 10-15 degrees if using convection. Combine all the ingredients for the streusel in a bowl and mix them roughly with your fingertips it should be a heterogeneous crumb. Use some of your remaining softened butter to grease the inside of a cake pan I used a 9 inch (23 cm) square pan, but you could use something a little smaller. Get a mixing bowl for the batter and whip the butter and sugar for a few minutes until fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, followed by the buttermilk and as much vanilla as you want (I use at least a tablespoon. Beat in the dry ingredients a little at a time until everything is in. Pour all the batter into the pan and smooth it out. Sprinkle on the streusel and bake until a skewer or knife to the center comes out clean, maybe 50 minutes. The crumb on top will be crunchy when fresh-baked, but will soften up considerably in a day.

Can I reduce the sugar for the cake, not the streusel? American cakes are way too sweet for me, so I usually reduce the sugar by a 1/4-1/3 less than most cake recipes and the prepackaged coffee cakes are delicious but the sweetness is overbearing for me so I can't eat more than half a serving, even with black coffee.

Yeah I am not originally from america, and when I first saw coffee cake i thought it was going to be a coffee tasting cake so I was super pumped. Took a bite and was walloped by the sugar bomb on my taste buds. Thankfully I am also a fan of cinnamon, but I really craved that coffee flavored cake

That's a very different concept of coffee cake that I'm accostumed to. For me, coffee cake is also not made of coffee, but it's supposed to be very sweet, too sweet, so you can eat it with black coffee. Every bite is counterbalanced by a sip of bitter coffee. That's how I like it.

I actually (USED TO) like sensodyne. their soft brushes for my gums idk about the paste. before this CRINGED sponsorship that is, now i need a break i'll look for a different company. one that does not push cringe and content creators that don't as well

I have no idea what malted milk powder is and I think it doesn't even exist in europe, at least in Portugal it doesn't. Also the vanilla, can't seem to find it, only vanilla beans or vanilla sugar or some brown liquid meant to simulate vanilla.

Hey Adam, I would love to see a video on dairy specific allergies, since I have lived 20 years with a severe anaphylactic dairy allergy, not many people realize that you can actually be allergic to dairy and not just lactose intolerant.

This video is the gold standard for sponsored content. He straight up says this is an ad and it's clear what part is a promotion and what part is the recipe. It was clear, but I didnt feel like he was shoving the product down my throat.
reply

Sorry but the Sensodyne makes my teeth so sensitive it made it nearly impossible to anything remotely cold.
And I tried it twice. I guess it works for some people but its a disaster for me. I cannot be the only such person.

reply

Why did he declare the ad so formally? Sensodyne doesn't seem a lot more involved than other sponsors that are introduced with the classic Ragusea-Pivot. Or does Sensodyne have a hidden coffee cake agenda that I am unaware of?
reply

If everyone knew the truth behind Repair & Protect no one would use anything else.
Why the story of its invention and what it can do for teeth isn't the backbone of all its ads is an absolute fkn mystery.
