I finally made this today for a friend's birthday.
1. I cooked the dulce de leche for 1. 5 hours like the recipe instructed but it came out too thick. I've never had dulce de leche before and I'm not American so I wasn't sure what to expect but I would personally reduce the time by 15-30 minutes next time. It was still delicious and I ate it straight with a spoon but it was not spreadable or particularly drizzle-able.
2. To ensure the cake doesn't fall apart, you cannot poke the holes aggressively like he does. I think that's why his 2 layers did not hold up. You have to stab it in smooth strokes and preferably not all the way through.
However, I will say it's a good recipe, worth making and among all his recipes that I've tried this is one of the few I'll definitely be remaking.

Love Babish but goddamn was this a disaster. Bringing that to any of our latino parties would be like bringing raisin potato salad to a southern cookout. You're gonna get more than a few this white boy looks. Also, it would take you 2 minutes of googling tops to check your pronunciation.

My first experience with the tree leches cake was unknowingly biting down on it and expecting a dry cake only to have my mouth filled with milk and practically drowning

I've tired this cake so many times and cannot do it. Its like eating a wet sponge. I'd rather just have the cake with just the frosting, caramel, and strawberries.

I like my tres leches swimming in the liquid. Like you have to leave it in the pan and when you take a slice you then pour some of the liquid on it yeeeessss

Hey Banish! Here's a tip for making layer cakes: After stacking the cakes, refrigerate them again, so everything will stay together.
