World Class Ramen At The Click Of A Button In Osaka, Japan - The Meat Show

video description

Rating: 4.0; Vote: 1
This week on The Meat Show: Japan, host and professional carnivore Nick Solares samples his very first bowl of authentic Japanese ramen made with a dashi, or kombu and bonito, stock. How does it stack up against the broth-y noodle bowls hes been eating stateside for decades? Watch the video to find out. Kitty: If you are a ramen gourmet, you should go to Hokkaido or Kyushu. Asahikawa is famous with soy sauce ramen, Sapporo with miso ramen and Hakodate with salt ramen. There are roughly 2 types of tonkotsu ramen in Kyushu. One is Hakata and the other is Kumamoto. Also, you had better master how to slurp noodles as far as you are in Japan.

Love that Nick seems to have taken some of his critics' comments on board - less overbearing, more upbeat. Not entirely sure if it suits him, but kudos for the effort. Which is more than I can say for the editing: - appearing, disappearing, reappearing gyoza. Yes I'm nitpicking. No I couldn't do any better, and yes that kinda makes me a hypocrite but this is youtube, right?

Suddenly everyone in the comments is a Ramen connoisseur, let Nick enjoy his experience in Japan. Sure, Nick isn't the model acculturated tourist, maybe he should pick up a tour guide, a local, idk, but I think he's a cool guy and he's not being rude on purpose. Maybe he should pick up a book of Japanese manners.

I'm Asian and I do not slurp when eating noodle or pick the bowl to sip soup. None of my family or relatives do this either so I'm not sure who started this myth about slurping is a compliment. I also read this in text and documents that say that as well. I guess one person started this and it just continued.

All the Ramen stores in NYC are very so so. Better ones are sadly still mediocre compared with good ones in Japan. I guess it is because that the level competition is much higher in homeland, and in NYC most of people simply do not know how good Ramen is in Japan. So the standard can not rise high as there.

I like how whoever edited the footage has Gyoza introduced to the table at 2: 27 when it was already shown in the scene earlier at 1: 47. I know that continuity isn't as crucial for a show like this, but it just seems kinda sloppy and stuck out to me.

Keep this guy to burgers and send him to texas. But no. You let him destroy a great food culture as Japan. I'm surprised he can even use chopsticks. At least he gets a thumbs up for that but you ain't letting no gringo review ramen. It's a disgrace

why does every guy who reviews ramen tell the viewer slurping is a compliment to the chef? It's not. It's just how you should eat it. Or do you guys think it is a compliment to the chef if you dont use a spoon when eating pasta? No!

Ugh, I love Eater but this guy is just ruining the whole experience of watching quality videos Eater makes. The way he just rambles on about himself and his forced vocabulary is just. unbearable to say the least.
