Love this video! And it is so true about how cooking in this style is fading away due to parents not passing these recipes to their kids. I'm only 31 but not never once was asked as a kid what I wanted for supper was just called when it was ready and ate it with no complaints. People are always looking for complicated was to fix the big mess our world is in but in fact it's only simple ways we have strayed from that put us where we are. We need more family time with respect for others ourselves and our resources and more thanks for what we have and not to complain about what we don't have. We need to set down as a family to break bread with the whole household present as a family without a TV blaring and more thanks to our Father in heaven.

And people act like my state is so bland and simple. So many cultures made SC. The different foods make it a pleasure to live here. The food in Beaufort or Frogmore isn't the same as the food in Georgetown or Newberry or Augusta or Columbia and so on. Passed for various reasons in various ways. Many dishes have multiple ways of being cooked. Haven't been down to Charleston or Beaufort in a few years. However, if you visit please be respectful. Charleston is leaning more towards Myrtle Beach year by year. And Myrtle Beach is a giant tourist trap we avoid like the plague. So don't ruin our lowcountry.

That was beautiful to watch. Nothing better than getting in the kitchen and learning from our older generation cooking techniques that have been passed down the generations. I don't usually bless the food I eat but after seeing the whole process here that was the first thing that came to my mind when the food had been presented on the table.

Our grandparents taught us to love and share So much power in these words because slaves spoke them. We need to preserve and protect this culture, instead of fighting to remove statues and rename streets, this is where Americas black culture was birthed and remains. This is a national treasure.

Those fish were way to small to be spottail bass (AKA redfish, it is more likely that those fish were croakers, a cousin of redfish which look and taste very similar to redfish but are much smaller, if the fish shown in this video are redfish, then they are illegally harvested baby redfish

It's interesting that their accents are similar to Caribbean accents. Really makes the link between the western black diaspora and West Africa apparent. Like how Scots in the Shetland Islands sound like they came from Norway because the viking influence on their accent.

So much over the top discussion about culture and history that you forgot to show us how to actually make the food at she made. No red rice recipe, what did she sprinkle over the fish, what was in the icing for the cake? Sigh.

Seems like a fair trade - 1 slave in turn for US citizenship for your children and their children and their children. Better than all of those generations living in extreme poverty in Africa. Wish I could get into US.

Thank you for showing this video because the last video conflating Carolina Gold with Hill Rice was beyond irksome for someone who researches and gives talks about African Foodways and the Black Atlantic.

Just so you have the facts straight. According to Hebert Louis Gates. There were 380, 000 Africans brought to America. The vast number were brought to the Caribbean and Brazil Not making any excuse.
