Its best to spare some spice from the ground spices (made for chicken) to add in rice instead of adding whole spices in rice. Also, in those ground spices, lemon juice, oil and Ginger/garlic paste should have been added too.

I made it on the stove. halfway through i took chicken out from above the rice, and steamed it separately. Came out perfect and everyone loved it.
