Learn how to make Crispy Beer Batter Fish All beer batter fish recipes are crispy right out of the fryer, but after a few minutes, most turn soft, and soggy, but thats not a problem here. By following a few simple steps, your last bite should be just about as crispy as your first. Potato chips sold separately

Yes, those chips are very wrong Also, you don't get the lemon and tartare in 'fish and chip shops' - take out food, but you definitely do if you go to a restaurant or bar. Lastly, in Edinburgh (and only in Edinburgh) you don't get salt and vinegar, you get salt and sauce. And the sauce is special 'chippy sauce', made by each shop and not available elsewhere. I know not why

I tried it, and the texture was absolutely perfect Crispier than most restaurant fish and chips I've had Only thing is that it needed a lot more seasoning than I put in, so for anyone else making it, make sure you add a generous amount of salt. All that flour and beer really distributes it so try to take that into account.

so nice compared to all the pretentious so and so's in England and Australia, see how i didnt swear like Ramsay the Fool. food culture is a laugh, this guy doesnt treat it like fine art crossed with modern science carry on. Well done

You do not put fish and chips in newspaper without wrapping said fish and chips in plain paper first The INK gets in the food AND those CHIPS are CRISPS Self rising flour? really self raising flour surely. Now I will stop.

Chef John chose a pretty viscous section of the newspaper to lay his fish in. The story in the bottom right is talking about an intoxicated man who was arrested on the Golden Gate Bridge and then who hanged himself in jail.

You didn't make scraps always drip the excess into the fryer to make scraps which are hands down the bestest bit of a chippy dinner Tho you used crisps which. ya know is weird but you're American so it's ok.

British potato chips are not really french fries - dear god man Have you ever been to a chippy? British chips are much thicker, lighter golden soft coating rather than crispy and thin like french fries

I'd like to know if you could substitute a gluten-free flour with this. I have a roommate who has a full-blown gluten problem. Otherwise, I get to wait until she's away for a week to make this.

I'm British and the old chips, crisps debate is very cliche. The potato dish in the video is a nice light version, perfect for perhaps a bar snack. Nice job chef John. Informative as ever
