FYI: Jelly is a clear, gelatinous fruit spread, no fruit solids to speak of. Jam is a thicker fruit concoction that is spreadable and has some fruit solids. Preserves are spreadable fruit concoctions, thicker than jams, and have pieces of whole fruit. Marmalade, you ask? Marmalade is kind of in a class by itself. It's made from citrus and uses both the rinds and the whole fruit. Orange Marmalade is the most common. Conserves tend to be more on the savory side and are kind of the equivalent of a European chutney. Think preserves but chunkier and usually served like you would a chutney.

Honestly, this is one of the worst cakes out there. Nothing but a huge stack of chewy, moist mushy crepes soaked in cream and strawberries. You won't believe how bad it it, until you tried it. I made it as a kid once, thinking it would turn out amazing. It did not. And i knew how to cook and bake, seriously. I'm not hating on John. I love John. I just think this recipe takes everything good about Crepes and makes sure nothing is left of said qualities. Much rather had 12 Crepes, fresh, warm, thin and crispy, than this abhorrent abomination of a cake. :D

this is a serious request: could you maybe do a blogpost with recipes i can incorporate marijuana into? i know that chili is one i could use but i'm not sure what others would have strong enough flavors to disguise the pot taste. i don't particularly like the taste and i can't smoke it, so any help you could offer would be most appreciated. thank you.

From what I remember from culinary school is that jam and preserves are essentially the same except preserves have larger chunks of fruit where jam theyre more incorporated. Jelly i believe doesnt contain any actual fruit in it. I could be wrong as its been a few years but thats what seems accurate from my memory.

Don't know if you considered it but why not use a spring form pan to place the crepes and chill the cake? that way you don't have to worry about it tipping in the fridge, as well it gives a nice serving tray. also if you made the crepes to fit, you wouldn't need worrying about centering the crepes.

Do your original Crepe video with your newly developed style. I just wanna make a great crepe but want to listen to your new tempo while doing it. The old video (disabled comments) is boring. .Jussayn. Anyway. Gonna watch this one to see if its enough. But a plain crepe video for metta searches is nice.

In Chile there's a very popular cake usually found in cafes called Pancake cake. The idea is the same, but the crepes used are more simmilar to german pancakes. a little bit thicker and fluffier (but not as much as hotcakes. They usually put orange jam between the layers.

I can't wait to try making this cake. -I've tried several of your recipes (most recent is the apple pie) and I really like that you use such simple ingredients and make the process so easy to follow. My family and relatives really love all of what I've cooked so far.

Chef John, it goes. Jelly. to. Jam. to. Preserve -- with Jelly being made almost entirely of the fruit juices (containing no actual junks of fruit) to Preserves having the most actual junks of fruit. ; and Jam being somewhere in-between. : )
