Brazilian Banana Fish with Aaron Craze Nanjenchan: Totally, in a country as big as a continent some regions have dramatically distinct traditions. I am from the South (heavy european influence, last year I went to the north (heavy native american influence, ate a lot of delicious stuff that I never saw before. The way that they cook basic beans, for example, is completely different. =] Some brazilians need to know Brazil!

Dude! There's hundreads of recipes with fish and banana troughout north and northeast of the country, like some kinds of moquecas. In southeast, in a beach city called Ubatuba there's even a restaurant called Peixe com Banana which mean fish with banana. You should get your facts straight and do at least some research before comment this stuff

i'm brazilian, and it kind of reminds me of a very typical dish called moqueca. there are 2 types of moqueca: capixaba (more portuguese influence, with the use of olive oil) and baiana (more african influence, with dende oil and coconut milk. we don't use basil with fish, the herb of choice is cilantro. it seems yummy anyway: )

To the whiny Brazilians that claim they never heard of it: Yes, this is a Brazilian dish. He made changes, like not using coconut milk and using basil instead of coriander. The banana is not exactly the same, since the variety of bananas is smaller in the UK. Brazil has 27 states, don't forget.

The thing about cod is that it doesn't have much of a flavour of its own, which is why I don't particularly like it in fish soup. In a dish like this, though, I imagine it goes really well, because the rest of the dish seems so full of flavour.

Its funny. Im from brazil, lives here and never ever ate something like that. Maybe in the states of the north, like Amazonas or Para, but for the majority of brazilians this is uncommon. And guys, brazil is not on the caribbean.

I'm a student and I still fail to understand what people mean by 'student meals'. Why not just buy ingredients and cook something up like anyone else would? Don't look for a cheap alternative, it defeats the point of cooking.

he used 2 pieces of cod (alternatively you can take pollock. which tomato part do you mean? he put in 1 tin of peeled tomatoes and added the fish stock afterwards. hope that helps (where are you from)

Calm down you pretentious know- it-all. Stop getting angry because I don't think the same way you do. I am handing you a virtual mechanical claw to help remove your head from your butt.

I am a brazilian and even though I have not eaten fish with bananas I have eaten plantanes and they do work with a variety of dishes, and I understand how this should work just fine.
