24 Hours Best French Food: SUBSCRIBE for more: Lyon is known as the food capital of France, and today we’ll be exploring some of the most legendary French food this amazing city has to offer, including eat at Paul Bocuse, often considered the king of French food, who influenced the entire culture of restaurants around the world. So is Lyon really the food capital of France Thank you to my friend Sophie Brissaud Food and Wine Journalist, Author) for taking us around and for sharing her incredible knowledge of French gastronomy and history with us. Les Halles de Lyon Paul Bocuse - We're on our Lyon tour at Les Halles de Lyon Paul Bocuse, a market where Paul Bocuse used to shop. You can buy every French ingredient you need here, and things tend to be gourmet and upscale, from Bresse chicken to cheese and oysters. We stopped at Le Fer à Cheval for a cafe. Brasserie Georges - You can’t go to Lyon without eating at Brasserie Georges, a legendary beer hall and the biggest brasserie in France. I had the Gratinée au Madère (French onion soup Madeira style, Green Lentils Salad, Oeufs Mimosa, and not forgetting the infamous Veritable Andouillette - an intestines sausage that’s known to be one of the stinkiest foods in France. Total price - 149. 20 for 4 people Daniel et Denise Créqui - Another part of the complex French food cultures of Lyon are the Bouchon Lyonnais - which are family restaurants that preserve the traditions of regional French food in Lyon. They abide by certain rules and there’s even clubs dedicated to buchons. I tried the classic Tte de veau (calf’s head, and then Braised Beef Chuck with wine sauce for my main course. Total price - 192. 00 for 3 people Restaurant Paul Bocuse - Finally it is time for the meal of all meals - the king of French food - Restaurant Paul Bocuse. Unfortunately, no truffle soup due to the season, but I did try the Green and White Asparagus with three different sauces; Sauce Maltaise - Blood Orange Sauce, Sauce Mousseline - lemon, egg yolks, butter, cream, Sauce Beaujolaise - Red wine, butter, beef stock, which was absolutely magical. Then the famous Truffled Bresse Chicken PDO Cooked in a Bladder - Anthony Bourdain called a Bresse chicken the Rolls Royce of all chickens, and they are known to be some of the best chickens in the world. This dish was unbelievable, and served with morel sauce. Total price - 538. 00 ($603. 17) for 2 people (The chicken along cost 290 Euro ($324. 75) Lyon really is a French food paradise, for its food and restaurant culture, history, and the amount of legendary chefs from Lyon. There is no other nation in the world like France and Italy when it comes to good food and good wine. Both nations share more than people think and more than the French and Italians themselves like to admit, and this is reflected in the goodness and quality of the cuisine of both nations. Mutual historical influences have resulted in a food and wine culture that is unparalleled, and so many famous French dishes and foods are of Italian origin just as many Italian foods and dishes have French influences, especially in northern Italy. France has a more sophisticated and elegant cuisine partly because historically it has always been home to the most important kingdoms in European history, so even the simplest dishes had to be worthy of kings and queens. Italy has a more turbulent history and is more influenced by many different peoples, and this has contributed to an incredible variety of simply unique traditional dishes, perhaps simpler in form but just as rich in substance. It is no coincidence, therefore, that in the World French and Italian cuisines are the absolute best.

If a chicken was raised somewhere on the slopes of the Himalayas on an open farm, and ate only the natural food it found, then shipped alive to that restaurant, and then killed without feeling any stress, it might be worth up to $100 for lunch, but the whole chicken, not just two pieces. I think they ripped you off though. And yes, the waiter is not Brad Pitt or Rihanna. Maybe then it would be worth up to 200 dollars.

If Mark wants to go this route, he needs to change the style of his video. The setting is too big for Mark's old style of focusing the narration only on food. I think Mark needs to up his story-telling game like involving people that make the food, ask them more, get their description more into the video. Take this video for example, due to the lack of story telling, it just looks like a compilation of clips.

I doubt it was any better that a 4. 99 Costco chicken. And if it was it sure isn't worth $325. You are paying for the ambiance. The chicken is just an after thought and BS. Just because it's expensive and the place is fancy doesn't make it good and no chicken will ever be worth that kind of money. It's a damn chicken. Now if it was served by two hot French women in bikinis then maybe.

See when you say the rolls royce of chickens NOW I have to try it. I'm used to family comfort food style and street food like Thaifood, Vietnamese, basically all the good food by default whereas this I would feel out of place but would eat it just to know what I'm missing out on to compare to other chicken dishes I eat regularly.

lol i always watch your videos is the food always that eye popping amazing or are you just super stoned i dont think hes ever said one negative thing about anything hes ever eaten kinda takes away from the authenticity a little. best ever food review tells it like it is if something isnt right

If I no have regular place to travel, I would go with France and hope I get a lifeline, reel me in. Such a beautiful place, although the only time I was there, I asked a person, 'Which train to Paris' And he thought I said, Biarritz and that where I end up. It a pretty significant place.

When eating in a nice restaurant at least put on a proper shirt. The I travel for food shirt is fine if you're having lunch somewhere casual, but for goodness sake don't embarrass yourself by wearing a cheesy T-shirt in a nice restaurant when you are being served by formally dressed waiters.

I’m sure that chicken was phenomenal but not enough crust for me my chickens skin has got to be crispy and baked/fried skin. Even when grilling usually it will build a nice crispy crust. France cuisine is very different though lol. I would love to experience this someday.

Why do french people have the ability to make things seem so much more than what they are, it is like your suppose to like a chicken cooked in cow stomach that cost three hundred dollars. It's silly and pretentious. i usually love marks videos but i hated this one
reply

European cuisine is way over hyped. A lot of the reason they rave about it is because the government spends so many $$$ getting patent protection over over hyped food. Asian food has way more diversity and they don't hide behind protection to prove the worth.

French cuisine is overrated imo. All the fancy plating for not because honestly it is the flavors that most palettes want to savor but what do I know
If I ordered that chicken I want to dig into it whole bones and all not eat a couple of slices

Woooo great great time spent. Am so enviouse. Merci. p. s little tip especially in the top top of best restaurants is to use bread to finish sauces so as not to make noise scraping and sometimes removing the pattern on the plate ha ha ha

Hi. I've been watching your videos for a long time and I like them, but I have to note that in some restaurants you could at least wear a shirt or polo shirt and not go there in a jacket. Sorry, but that outfit really doesn't fit everywhere.

For going to the best restaurant in the world you would think he would wear a suit instead of a tee shirt, I am surprised there isn’t a dress code, for us who will never get there it’s a slap in the face to the restaurant
reply

That last restaurant felt like you were in a food museum and you got to eat the art. And that 538 euro bill is actually reasonable for a world-best meal for two people compared what they charge you in NYC for just average fare.

after so many years of eating food around the world, Mark still has not learnt of how to use knife and fork in Europe. It is opposite than in USA. But for a person who keeps eating with his bare hands- who cares, right Mark.

I'm so thankful Sophie was there to share her invaluable insight into the fine French dishes. I'm also very thankful that there was no point in this journey where Sophie had a wardrobe malfunction and her nuts popped out.

i used to watch these videos every day and then i read the book 22 dark truths and realized how shallow some of the advice you get trough videos like this is. id recommend that book to everyone wanting to level up
