24 Hours Best French Food: SUBSCRIBE for more: Marseille, France is a city that doesn’t always have a good reputation - in fact many people know it as the most dangerous city in France (maybe in Europe) - but I’m going to show you a different side, from the amazing beauty to the incredible local food. This was one of the most delicious days I had in France. Thank you to my friend Sophie Brissaud Food and Wine Journalist, Author) for taking us around and for sharing her incredible knowledge of French gastronomy and history with us. We’re starting this morning at Vieux-Port, the center of Marseille on the port. Every morning locals come to sell the fresh catch of the day straight from the Mediterranean. Unfortunately today was very windy, so there wasn’t as big of a catch as usual. La Caravelle - We then headed over to have a coffee with Ezekiel Zerah at one of the most historical cafes in Marseille. Sur le Pouce - Marseille has a large North African community, and you’ll find some of the best North African food outside of North Africa here, so I was very excited to try Tunisian couscous. Total price - 23 for everything You also can’t miss the incredible sights and views of Marseille. From Cathédrale La Major to Notre-Dame de la Garde! Chez Etienne - Did you know Marseille is the pizza capital of France And we’re going to one of the best pizza restaurants in Marseille to see how they serve pizza different from anywhere else in the world. Total price - 68 for 2 people Restaurant Michel - If there’s one French food you have to eat in Marseille, it’s Bouillabaisse, a fisherman’s soup originating in and around Marseille, and at Restaurant Michel they’ve perfected their recipe for three generations. I’m not saying this lightly, it was a life-changing meal, and even Sophie said it’s by far the best bouillabaisse she’s ever had in France. Total price - 204 for 2 people Marseille may be a little rough around the edges, but I found the people to be friendly and helpful with lots of characters, and the food to be some of the best in France. I love the fact that the pizzeria automatically serves half-and-half, because since I can't eat cheese, that's how we have to order pizzas at my place!
My introduction to bouillabaisse when I was a teenager, was through pictures of course, and then I had the opportunity to taste a really fabulous concoction done by a French chef in one of the major hotels in Singapore. And then in Los Angeles at the legendary, five star, Michelin award-winning Chasen's restaurant was where I had the other. It was phenomenally wonderful delicious, memorable, and it was also fun to see Doris Day order the same thing at another table!
The bouillabaisse here looks awesome! I can just imagine the flavor. Just wow!

I loved my two days in Marseille! I had Sur le Pouce on my list and chose Ghomrassen instead, which tasted pretty good but this spot might have been better. I went to Chez Madie Les Galinettes for bouillabaisse, and Chez Yassine for lablabi (Tunisian chickpea soup. I found Navettes de Marseille in some sweet shop that I never wrote down the name of and have been unable to find on the map since. I might go back someday, but I do feel like I got a lot out of those two days.

can i say something with constructive criticism. i want to hear more words than wow, aromas, classic. and melting in the mouth. i enjoy your videos. i enjoy everything about them. the history ect. would love to hear more terminology for others that have not experienced what you're eating. especially for others that are trying out new foods they dislike // overcome them eventually and love them at the end of the day.

732 million people do not have enough food every night. they go hungry
I am sure this man means well but it is too repetitive
why not visit countries with people in need. highlight their lack of food
these videos are for the priviliged people. that is about 1/3 of the world population! because 2/3 do NOT live like us
would be more meaningful to think about my suggestion

Thank you for this video, it's the city where I grow up and yes i love this city.
It is rich in cultures that come from everywhere, blessed by the Mediterranean, even if poverty strikes the city like the plague once did, the people remain very welcoming and proud to say that they are from Marseille.

In the 70's a journalist from NY donated $ 100. 00 to a foundation and won the prize. He could chose any restaurant in the world and he chose Chez Michel. The dinner for two was full of Chateau Rotchilds 1935 or so, besides other fancy beverages and the bill was more than 4 grand.

Glad to see you come to where I grew up: )
I love this city, and yes pizza from Marseille aren't same pizza an nearly unknown arround france an even more around the world unlike the Roma, Napolitan, New York or Chicago pizzas.
For me, these are the best pizzas in the world.

Some people seemed to love Marsailles but Lyon was by far the most fascinating food scene that I've ever learned about. That giant food hall and brewery was insane. And the chicken steamed in a cow bladder. That famous chef blew my mind. Thanks for the awesome content, Mark.

Good on that Pizza place only accepting Cash! Supporting the middle and lower classes of society from the prying Upper Class wanting to know what you spend your money on! They run the banks, visa, and mastercard, thus want a piece from every transaction you make!

Thankfully you didn't expose the best place to eat in Marseille. It's only a street back from the port and only serve sardines. You can't book a table and the locals never talk about it. You just have to find it by walking the streets and following your nose.

I enjoy learning about your travels but man cannot stand it when you SHOVEL spoonful of food in your mouth and it doesn't fit and spills out. Maybe take smaller mouthfuls. It's just so awkward, like a child not knowing how to use utensils.

Marseille seems like a nice food experience, but it doesn't seem like a true french cuisine. It's more like North African cuisine. I don't have anything against it, I just feel that french cuisine is much more complex and different.

Can you go to wisan Street pizza in Thailand and promote him. He sells pizza for 60 cents a slice. You will probably have to wait a very long time to get a slice but you should promote him to thai people and all your subs. Thanks

Nice video, but the couscous isn't tunisian here. The tunisian couscous is only with fish. What the american call couscous is semolina, the couscous is the name of the entire dish. But as a frenchie, you do the good spots
reply

French food for me is absolutely not couscous. It's more north African food. Better to eat that in Marocko and eat French food in France. Pizza Review Swedish food in Tokyo But the couscous and the pizza looks delicious.

Great episode once again: ) Im dying for Couscous and Merguez now. Not sure if you figured out that Couscous expands in the belly. An hour after eating you are even more full then right after eating

Brilliant video, there is so much fabulous french food aside the well know boeuf bourguignon etc, and the southern mediteranean cooking is the best and shares so many similarities with Italian food.
reply

it’s a bit offensive to refer people as their ethnics esp if you didn’t know their struggles being such ethnic in such environment in patronizing manner re you said about Italian
