I show you how I made a hobbit house in a rock using cardboard from pizza boxes, egg cartons, hot glue and paint. This project is super easy to make, requires no special skills and looks amazing in the end. I begin by cutting the walls and stairs from a single cardboard piece and made some indentations where the corners should be. I cut out two windows and a door. I glued the walls together. Added a cardboard stripe on the inside of the door and windows to give the impression that the walls are really thick. Made an oval base for the house and started working on the rock basic shape. I used thin, long stripes of cardboard to create the structure. I glued them together from the edges of the house in the shape of some arches that surround the walls of the house. The basic shape can be as irregular as any natural rock so you can't mess this up. I also made some additional windows that would go here and there in the rock. The next step is covering these stripes with egg carton pieces. The egg cartons have a rough texture that will give our rock that awesome natural look. I sanded the exterior a bit to make it look like one solid block. Next comes the painting. I used acrylics for this step. Started with a beige as a base color. When this layer was dry I brushed the surface with some white to have better highlights. Next I diluted some brown and dripped it randomly on the whole surface. I did the same with some green but only applied it here and there. I used white again on some areas to create some contrast. I let it dry before each color. Added some string lights at the bottom and that's it. This project can be finished in one or two days. I hope you'll have fun with it. Kayenne54: I'm just. I don't even know how you begin to figure out how to get the base design down. I might imagine something in my head, but actually knowing dimensions, measurements. wow. And then the amazing end result with all those steps in between. That takes some real know-how.

Your projects gave me some ideas about a castle gray skull that I wanted to build. I especially like how you make the textures of the walls look so authentic.

Nice job! but don't you think you would save a ton of time making paper clay and spreading it for the outside shell instead of gluing each little piece?
