I love your narrative and thoughts as you work through your painting. I often feel like I can't keep going or I'll make it worse. I keep going but it usually takes me months to move forward. I stare at the painting forever. After watching this video I feel like it won't take me so long; I'm thinking maybe I'll push through in less than a week? Who knows, but I'm off to paint my sister's all black lab who is graying. Thank you! you are the best!

Ahh, this will help me with my painting of a black cow. I was afraid to use straight black from the tube, but in some cases, you need to. Right? I know you use a limited color palette, but would it be too much to ask you to list the colors you use in the descriptions for each particular painting?

wow I love your work and the black on black helped quite a bit but I do have a question I am painting a portrait of an old English bulldog and he has these big jowls and its very black between them plus his nose is just as black how can I differentiate between the two and still have the authentic look of the dog?

Would have really been a good idea to post the photo of the dog beside the painting, because as viewers we have no idea what exactly you are trying to paint. As a result, I didn't find it very helpful because we can't see what the highlights and dark areas are that you are trying to pain!

Nicely done. I really like how you talk and show the fast forward. You mentioned a couple of things I have trouble with and it helped, such as that point where an artist can get discouraged with the progress. Just keep painting. Very helpful. Thx

Thanks for this video! I watched it a while back and it gave me the confidence and a good idea of how to paint my 2 friends two dogs, which also have a lot of black fur, one being a Rottweiler, and they were very happy with the results!

Loved how you executed the painting, but the sound was very low compared to other videos.
I thank you for your generous sharing of your knowledge. One criticism though. your uhm's nearly drove me away from staying with the whole demo.

Thank you! This was helpful and encouraging. It would've been extra helpful If the camera would've been closer and the lighting a little brighter since the dog was so dark. Great job though and I really appreciate the tips!

Certainly related to the comment about being disillusioned about every painting you do. almost every painting I've done has that sense about it, but as you say, it comes right in the end. good teachings my friend!
