I thought a sphere in linear perspective generically becomes an ellipsoid! Is Marshall using orthographic projection instead of perspective? 4: 44.
In fact, if the cone whose tip corresponds to our eye has a base bounded by the circular visible part of the sphere, and if the projection plane cuts through a cross section of the cone at an oblique angle, then the sphere will be projected onto our viewing plane as an ellipsoid. Which is a special case of the theorem that -conic sections map to conic sections in linear perspective-. I guess Marshall is just simplifying it for us and only considers the case when the viewing plane intersects the cone perpendicularly.
perhaps also someone that has followed his full course can comment.

A foolproof way of showing the compressions is creating a circle of the same diameter above the sphere. Then, draw even lines through the circle. Then you can see how the compressions work. All you are doing is seeing a cross section from a different perspective!

this was by far the most helpful video on contouring - I did it along with the video, pausing and slowing it and the fiet 4times I couldn't do it properly, and after observing the curvatures I was able to draw the next 5 even better!
thanks a lot!

dat scream almost killed me
thanks marshall & proko
This tutorial did spheres look fun and less stressing; it almost felt like i wasn't seeing a tutorial, just two pals explaining something.
that's very unique

my god, when he showed me how the eye and mouth change when you turn I had an epiphany.
its like, it so obvious, but god dammit I didn't draw it right a single time

Marshal should be a voice actor. He may be, but if he isn-t, he may have a serious side hustle with voice acting and narration.
