How many seeds should you plant per pot, hole, or cell when you're starting seeds? It's a great question and one that depends on. math! Not all seeds are created equal and not all seeds germinate the same. so learn how to get the best, healthiest seedlings possible!

Screw it, from now on, it's personally going to be minimum three seeds per planting spot, more if they're tiny like a punctuation mark. No more hemming and hawing with single seed per spot like I did before.
Packets are 2-3$ with often seeds in excess. I swear I have _monarda fistulosa_ and it says 1000 seeds with 72% germination rate so you can bet your gardening butt that I'm going to put 5-10 in the ground.
Might as well stack our odds and play the law of average just like nature does with her millions of seeds spread out.
Thanks for the green push!

Perhaps a silly question, but if I didn't plant enough seeds the first time around in my small pot, although I'm getting some germination, can I just plant more seeds in that same soil next to to those germinating? The herbs are germinating but not growing fast enough (several weeks with very little growth. I've planted basil, cilantro and chives. Thanks in advanced for your input!

One method I do to test germination is to get 1 gallon of water.
I'll add 3 ounces of household chlorine bleach.
Soak the seeds.
Wait about 15 minutes and check to see which ones have swollen.
The bleach quickly oxidizes and softens the seed coat.
It's dangerous to breath in but great method.

Beginner Gardner here, love your content. I was curious, I have used this methods and have some cells with 2 seedlings sprouting, healthy looking plants (2 weeks old. Could I transplant one of those plants to another cell or should I just snip it like you stated here.
Thanks for the time!

Confused. so if a seed has a failure rate of 25% and we plant 2 in a hole, then we'd do 25 x 25 = 625. So 1 in 625 chance it fails? Shouldnt it fail more then a seed w/ a better germ rate of 10%? what am I missing? Thanks!

I want to see how to automate veggie gardening. Farmbot. io a nice device based on raspberry pi. Opensprinkler is another automated project. I want to automate water containers & monitor it. How do we do this?

As soon as I sew the seeds I need to put them in light? I always have kept them out of light for the first couple of weeks how many hours a day do I need to have the lights on?

When you said math and germination rate I was thinking I totally he hopes he picks 90 percent. If you picked 80-20 you would have looked like a wizard to us all. Awesome!

Your videos have helped me so much. Last year I had a giant tomato bush. But they were all i was growing anyways. This year I plan on doing much more.

good explanation but its useless if you dont know that exact germination rate of the plant you are trying to grow? 9/10 is just your example.

I can't wait to see the follow-up on that basil pruning video if you're going to do one! :) thanks for the tips!

In my apartment I planted radishes in a long pot but, they grew really small. Why? What did I do wrong? Thank you!

Something funny I use 3-15 per hole (I put 3 in all the holes but then threw the rest in all the holes randomly )
