Pea shoots are dead-simple to grow, provided you follow just a few best practices. They're a large seed and require soaking before you actually plant them. For best results, you'll want to follow this guide carefully - a lot can go wrong! I've noticed that with peas, you'll want to go a bit lower than the recommended seed amount. 8-9oz per tray is better than the 11-12oz you see me plant

The Asian tiger mosquitoes (you can identify them by the alternating black/white bands on their legs) are establishing themselves in SoCal. I had no issues with mosquitoes 20 years ago, but now they are everywhere. They bite during day time as well, so it's quite annoying. You will need a set of strategies to reduce their numbers: 1. remove any standing water. These guys can reproduce in a tiny bit of water (such as a bottle cap. 2. Trap food-seeking female mosquitoes. 3. Use traps to kill egg-laying mosquitoes and their larvae. Let me know if you want more information on 2 and 3.

What is the plastic these trays are made of that everyone is using? Is it NSF? If not, and after repeated use, the seed roots in water touching this plastic could absorb toxins into the sprouts as the plastic deteriorates with excessive moisture, light etc. Is it healthy to use non food safe containers for sprouting? The general use for these trays is to start the seedling for replanting into a garden. Just a concern I have.

Hi Epic Gardener and friends, Great video! I have a question. I am growing my micro-greens in a green house in the tropics. I need to shade it to reduce the internal heat. What is the maximum shade that my micro-greens can tolerate? I am battling with radiant heat from the sunlight on the clear covering of the greenhouse. Can you or any one help me, please?

I like how you water in the tray first I've never seen that anywhere else.
I'm planning on doing some microgreens in a couple months and I thought I would try the Paper Pot trays that Curtis Stone used they seem to be a little more rigid what do you think of that? I want a little bit more of a rigid tray because I can't have a lot of spillage.

2 things I have seen done differently: 1) Only soak 4-12 hours. Anymore and you increase chances of peas soaking up too much water and rotting. 2) Water the seeds more, enough that you dont see those big thick side roots. That means they need more water and it takes away from root growth. They can be misted from the top until the canopy is too thick.

My Dad has a DynaTrapXL and it seems to really do a great job on the pest. Uses a light to bring them in and a fan to such them into a chamber where they can't escape. Works well because they don't even have to land, just be near it and the fan does the job. Down side is you have to remove the bugs from the trap every so often.

I love a presenter who doesn't have to be perfect and is willing to show us his/her mistakes. In my life, I have learned much more from failures and mistakes than I have from success. In your willingness to take this approach, you have saved many of us from making the same mistakes. Thank you.

Soooo. I love your videos, thanks by the way! As for the mosquito issue. warm water then add dawn. Water first or the water will bubble up. Put under your lights. Works for most insects. found out when I took my cat to the vet and she came home with fleas. was hell. Your welcome

Thanks for all your videos. I tried sunflower micro greens and they were great. Im trying pea micro greens now, and one week in, theyre really leggy. I dont have grow lights and theyre on my kitchen counter. Is there a trick or is it the variety I used? Thanks!

I have watched this twice, but at no stage do yo video actually assing the peas to the soil. I cannot easily see if you cover the peas with a thin layer of soil or not. I'm assuming not, but can you make things more clear in future for novices like me?

Put up bat houses, bats eat mosquitoes as I understand. Also make sure any standing water in your neighborhood is emptied (or oil slicked on top to keep it from being a breeding ground do not oil slick a natural environment though)

Any tips on how to get pea seeds cheap? Buying them in garden stores gets quite pricey and I haven't had any luck finding dried peas in grocery stores either. Most only carry split peas which aren't the same thing.
reply

Where did you get the seeds? Your seeds seem to be a lot brownish, the green peas that I get from store that are still green, are very fragile, once I soak them, half of them splits and will not sprout.

Ah thank you I was wondering if you could do it in a tray like that without hole or if you had to bottom water. .seems you can do it both ways. Thanks again for making this

Many Thanks for sharing your epic green thumb knowledge!
Here on the East coast (northern) weve had lots of rain, humidity and tons of mosquitoes all summer.
