How to Prune a Loquat Tree + Fall 2018 Garden Plans

Fall 2018 is coming soon, and the garden is looking a bit worse for the wear. I've pulled all of my lingering summer crops and am in a planning phase for the next season. Part of that planning is clearing out some of my loquat tree vegetation to let more sun through to the back beds on my land. Pruning loquats is simple, but there are 1-2 little tips that can help you if it's your first time with them

I have a baby loquat tree that is about 2 feet and a half. she is beautiful but her bottom leaves keep turning brown. she has no branches yet. It's pretty slow at growing. I've been looking for how to make it grow a bit faster or why the leaves keep turning brown. I moved it into the house. I felt like it was getting too much sun.

I have a long line of loquat trees that provided a nice barrier between my neighbors and my house. They have grown too tall and the arctic freeze in San Antonio in February, 2021 has frozen and killed many branches. How severely can I prune them to lower their height and to remove the dead branches?

Hey so I've been researching everywhere and finding nothing, I recently purchased an oddly shaped loquat tree and was looking to learn how to prune mine to restore it to a more ornamental look, could I like paypal you some money and send you a pictureof it for you to advise how to shape it?

I was gifted two Loquats that are gorgeous but they were limbed up pretty severely and have branches starting at around 6 ft. Id like to encourage lower branches so I can eat some loquats. Do you have any advice on how to encourage lower branches? Thank you

When you say you're not that big on loquats for eating, it makes me think you might have a variety that doesn't produce real sweet fruit. they can be really good. I used to add them in when I was making granola, and the baking makes them even sweeter.

when your loquat fruits just trim off the smaller ones to let however many you think you will use to grow big and with less seeds. many of mine had one seed this year and doubled in size and oh so sweet! delicious!

Uncle, loquat fruit will bring birds, raccoons, squirrels, and homeless people to your yard. And the seeds germinate everywhere. It's like a weed. I have to pull out seedlings all year long.

So my Loquat tree is about 6 years old. We didnt take care by pruning so it s very tall with few branches. Can I still prune it down to become more bushy eventually and still get fruit?

A how NOT to prune a fruit tree. I suggest people check out how Paul Gautschi's and his pruning method. He runs the Garden of Eden farm out of Washington state

We just moved into a 1900 Victorian in Monrovia CA with a 40ft tall and about 20ft wide loquat its insane and filled with baby loquats cant wait to try them: )

They're full of vitamin C and delicious, with the way things are going at the grocery stores you never know how valuable that tree may become, just saying.

Looks great. I honestly think these open canopy loquats are much more interesting then the 30 foot ball of a tree. Plus the multi stem allows light in.

My tree is probably ten year old. I had it pruned last year after fruiting season. This year, we see no flowers at all. :(
