Quitting Your Job to Start a Seed Farm: 3 Year Update Brad: This is funny, I just came across your company, watching this show about 10 minutes ago. Great site San Diego Seed Company, and Epic Gardening has been inspiring for me since I have seen your show on you tube. We live down here in Ft Lauderdale Florida, and today, actually one hour ago I have planted my first seed -- Everglades Tomatoes, and have 9 more buckets that I have prepped to plant lettuces, beets, herbs -- very energetic in looking forward to growing vegetables, being a native New Yorker this is really a unique experience.

Cat's name is Black Beauty, named after the Eggplant. Also, I tried San Diego Seeds for the first time this year (inland northern california with hot summers) and everything from here thrived. Right now, the radishes I got from there (golden and watermelon) are doing better with our swinging weather (from high 80s to now low 30s at night) than any of the other radish seeds I planted. Thanks Epic Gardening for tlling us about this company and to San Diego Seed Company for the awesome seeds for us southern gardeners!

We love bottom watering on our farm and use XL metal baking trays to water. Ours are 18 x 26, you can fit a ton of seedings, the trays are super strong and can take the weight, and easy to move around as you need. We also use them in our Bonsai garden, along with a layer of small pebbles, to retain ambient moisture. The trays are also awesome if you are growing moss.

I feel like all of this attempt at environmentalism goes right down the toilet the second people start using plastic trays for seed starts and plastic sheathing for greenhouses. There has got to be a better way than a Forever Chemical that bioaccumulates and pains life on the planet. If there isn't, we deserve to go extinct.

Re: seed trays. I found and bought a bunch of (natural latex) rubber seed trays and they work great! They were more expensive than plastic ones, but they should last me a whole lifetime. They're super easy to clean, and I find popping out the seedlings is easy as well. Found them on Prairie Road Organic Seed!

I'm soooooooooooooooooooooo pumped to hear them doing work with brassicas here in San Diego. We've given up on trying to grow broccoli or cauliflower and since we already buy 99% of our seed from SD Seed Company, I'm excited to hear we'll be able to give them another try at some point in the future.

Love to see the success and growth but tbh my favorite part was the soil sifting tip! I'm doing no dig and my compost is not the best so I've had some struggles with baby seedlings not so happy in the chunks. I had to pause the video to go buy a sifter as soon as I saw that tip!

Super cool and inspiring! Recently got into gardening this year w a hydro planter w 10 spots and LED light. But I learned a lot here. The soil sifting method for starting seeds makes a lot of sense! Esp my buttercrunch has been struggling to pop up in some areas.

The mulch from chip drop is wood chips, shredded bark, and shredded leaves.
I watched the other video. It gives hope there's another beneficial path for my remote garden. One doesn't need miles of separation distance to produce seeds.

I have placed 5-6 orders from them this year and love everything I've planted. Just placed another today. My basil plants from their seeds are HUGE and beautiful, still in mid November! So cool to see the tour! Thanks for sharing!

So are her products, hybridised fruits and vegetables? Our body was designed to eat as close to nature, as designed. Hence, if her seeds are hybridised and /or gmo. Then I am very disappointed. Can somebody please clarify?

So wait, if I want to keep my own seeds for the next season, I need to wait for the vegetable to go almost bad?
I thought I just needed to let it get really ripe, but still edible.

I came because I saw the straight outta compost t-shirt.
Pretty cool, might buys some seeds if you ship to Australia?
Wondering if there's a Mr. straight outta compost T-shirt. ;)

How can we find seed companies like this in other locations? Is there a equivalent to San Diego seed company that is growing seeds in the San Francisco Bay area for example?
