Wooden Spoon Carving with Grnsfors Bruks Axes Littlehonda125: This is wonderful. I really enjoyed watching it. I've made a few. Gransfors Bruks are the best, I fell in love with those tools since the moment I got my first Small Forest axe into my hands. I started carving with the SFA, but have since changed to the mini hatchet for most things, especially spoons. And the Mora knives as well. And your pants. It's really nice to see someone else doing this!

Me before watching: interesting, I need to see how to carve a spoon with a big axe
Seeing him taking out a knife: okay, but how is he going to dig the hollow of the spoon?
Seeing him taking out a bent knife: hmmm. so the axes do nothing more than just chop out an outline. which is also something you can do with a knife.

For convex wooden objects as far as sanding is concerned, it is better to make a stick in your hand 8x6 cm nicely smooth and straight and square square. Wrap glass paper in it to sand the wood and sand it like this. Better than on your knees. Faster and easier work. Glue felt with wood glue. For luxury sanding

Please just be very careful with some of those techniques. The spoon knife with pressure on your thigh made me nervous. There's a couple pretty important arteries not far from there.
Anyhow, pretty work. I enjoyed seeing the Grunsfors in action carving!

I just got my first Gransfors Bruks and I am very happy with it. I got the small forrest axe and I want to get one of their smaller ones but couldnt decide which one I wanted. you just helped me decide what other one I want. Great vid

Im watching some more of your videos, and I think if I tried to make a spoon like that Id end up with a spatula that has a 4 inch handle and no shaping to it all because of one missed cut with an axe,

Very nice job carving a beautiful and functonal large spoon! It isn't so large as to not be an eating spoon and yet is large enough to be a good stirring spoon for stews and batters!
Great job!

Time well spent, it's a keeper! I enjoy watching your projects. I have the Gransfors Bruks large carving hatchet, it is heavy and i'm almost afraid I'm going to injure myself or lose a thumb.

We still have a proverb from the time when wooden spoons were made, To beat the buckets. That is, the workpiece was somehow beaten off, and then the spoons were cut, maybe this will help.

I'll never purchase another axe from this Gransfors Bruks. The handle was pitted and rough with Splinters showing all over it. For the kind of money they charge, ridiculous

If your looking for one step above these axes check out Kharkiv forge, they make masterpieces. The journeyman and wayfarer are pretty comparable but all of their tools are A+++

How did you make the fire? (With a match or stones i couldn't see)
Nice spoon btw. I will release a video like this as well in some time: -)

You are a very very talented fellow! I have watched all your videos and loved them. But. do you ever make errors? I can't believe you've never goofed.

Erik, you are the most awesome person around. I wish you well, happy, safe and healthy. LOVE YA! And YES I am a Patreon supporter. Glad to help.

Great job on the spoon! What sand paper grits did you use? And do you soak your spoons in water, allow to dry, then sand again? Thanks!

Hehe, love Mora knifes! Got some with handmade grips made of apple. Got the blades from the knivfabric utsalg in summer 1992. ;o)

Beautiful wood spoon. You made that look so easy. Thank You for sharing your many talents with the world. Mary In Molalla, Oregon

it's simple. You have to cut everything from a log that doesn't look like a spoon seriously, good work. I envy you

Looks like you studied Dick Proenneke, Alone in the Wilderness, before you started this project. Great job your doing.

Great job. Hard to see the hours and hours of sanding it takes to finish a spoon, fork or spatula. I do one a week.

The sides of the spoon by the carving are thinner than the rest. How or where do you dry this so it doesnt split?
reply

Mora Sloyd yes. Mora hook knife NO. Well done for managing to make anything whatsoever with that appalling tool

First spoon carving video from someone who isn't a spoon carver. You don't need to be a pro to do it!
