Solo Off Grid Timbering Log Cabin only Hand Tools 7. 0 - One Man Traditional Log Cabin series
video description
I am a girl and spent my childhood in the country, so I dont see anything strange in the fact that you dont wear glasses or some other means of protection, oh this prudently dreary 21st century.
It's interesting that wooden dowels are used to strengthen the frame, it always seemed to me that builders were limited only to the lock connection at the ends.
in any case, it's amazing to watch how a person just works with his own hands, I adored this sight as a child) I watch your videos in order every night before going to bed, there is still a lot of interesting things ahead and I think you have plans too)

what's so cool about your videos is to be able to show a complete record of the build for the future, from harvesting the trees to the physical effort to elevate them to height to build the structure, its a really great effort, i for one appreciate what it takes to shift heavy objects on your own, i love solving those problems of how to shift things how and where, getting round obstacles, its a mighty challenge and worth all the effort, not only that you'll be able to show the grand kids where you got arms like Popeye - super build, now where's the sauna going?

The peaceful quiet work of a young man of great patience, skill, and inner fortitude.
I have been doing axe and knife work ever since picking up Wille Sundqvists book Swedish Carving Techniques over 30 years ago in a woodworking shop in NY, and even spent a week & a half with Wille and wife Gunnel on his farm over 20 years ago in North Sweden.
Very proud of you, Erik. Rare to see a young man with the old soul of the craftsman\builder with such quietness in his soul.

If you truly wanted a big challenge, you would have gone to the university (try to) and study 6+ years to become a doctor: ) This is easy challenge, running from responsabilities. I challenge you, after you finish your cabin and whatever else you still want to play with in the forest, to go to the university and get a diploma. I'm sure you won't do it though: )

I love to watch his work but I wish he had someone who could covert his language to English and narrative explaining what and why he is doing even telling us what pieces and their name of the instruments that he is using! Please consider it when you do your next video of putting your door connected and put up! A very interested viewer from Southern Wisconsin.

Nice how you maximise the use of nature as suppose to trying to urbanise your cabin by using those wooden nails/pegs you made is a nice touch. Some of the videos other people do. They generic metal nails, ply wood and other materials which defeats the purpose for me. Everything you do is all nature which is refreshing to see.

Building a Scandinavian scribe fit log home is a true labor of love. I know because I helped a friend of mine build three separate homes in as many years using 16-18 logs in Washington State when I was in my early twenties. I am now sixty five. Congratulations Erik, youre doing a fine job!

Nice video and great work! I'm looking to start a project like that too! If I may ask, is there a book that you would recommend to get started on building a log cabin? And also, where did you get the auger that you use at 12: 30 min in the video?
Thank you, I'm inspired by your work!

Would it be better to use very large timber for the base of the cabin and progressively move down to a smaller diameter? For both strength and ease of construction, obviously not a huge difference but maybe congruent with other changes one could have a slightly refined cabin

Hi Erik, I have a question, if you can answer it I would be very grateful. What is the name of the tool used to make the measurement between the logs? It looks like a kind of compass. Your work is very well done. Thank you for sharing your skills and knowledge.

Well done Erik, the cabin is coming on nicely, you are an inspiration to all especially to the youth of today which they seem to lack what you have. I am very proud of you and congratulate you for doing what you are.

It looks like cutting the saddles would've been way easier and faster with a saw than an axe.
No denying however that when one log seats neatly onto the one below, that looks immensely satisfying.

I'd have used premade rolls of sill plate ridged foam between logs rather than moss. No way as good. It may be nice to try to handmake but facts speak well. He is using a modern ax and camera,

I like this style better instead of chinking later. you do all that trim out so logs fit tight on top of each other. you have to do a lot of work now instead of later with the chinking

Howdy from Texas.
The enormous amount of work and patients with which you handle it is impressive. I would be reaching for a chain saw and a lumber mill.

Love the build so far. Can't wait to see the rest!
Quick question. Why don't you use planers or chisels in your work?
