How to Read a Plant Tag Garden Answer Paulette: I am in a zone 4a and have a long stretch of property near the road facing west. There is a ginseng field across the road. The property is on a hill, so the view northwest is amazing -- we can see 40 miles on a clear day. There's a lot of traffic on this road, however, and we'd like a bit more privacy without blocking the view. I've been considering what to plant along there for a long time. Has to be really tough to take the super cold winter winds that whip across that field, not too tall so we can see the view from the house which is a bit higher (i. e. Plants should be about 4-5 feet tall at most, full sun, low maintenance because this about 1/2 mile stretch to fill in. Ideas?

I have a huge garden center locally. They carry PW. I asked them to show me where there Supertunias were. They weren't labeled on the plant pot that they were from PW. So I asked her about that and she said they are supertunias from proven winners but they have been potted in their own pots. Is that typical? All of your planter pots say PW right on the side. I really really want to get my hands on the bubblegum vista. I passed on purchasing until I could figure out what I was buying. My flowers beds are prepped and ready, I want to plant them soooo bad!

I was at the garden center today, looking for a determinate tomato plant. I am going to attempt to make the hanging baskets basil on top tomatoes from the bottom. Not one tag said if it was determinate or indeterminate. Another customer told me to wait to buy tomatoes, it's too early for Pennsylvania. so I guess I have time to research more before I purchase. In the meantime I am going to attempt the laundry basket filled with strawberries. Grandchildren will love it!

The soil in my yard seems to be very wet and has algae growing on top. Everything I plant doesn't do well: ( what can I do to get better soil conditions? I can't control getting more sun to that area but I do control the amount of water but yet still very wet and moldy. I don't have big bushy trees blocking the sun either it's just the placement. Please help.

Very helpful info, and just want to give a shout out to some amazing video quality and editing job! Does Aaron do all the behind the scene techie work? The tags were magnified with very clean and clear text, animated (it flips over when she says flip it over, and visually checks each section on the tag as she explains. Impressive job guys!

literally every plant says moist but well drained soil, would be so much better if they said how to know when to water e. g. rosemary and sage like to be completely dried out, but mint is happy to be watered even when its damp sighs. I've killed some plants simply because there isn't enough guidance around watering.

I live in zone 10 south florida. We don't have frost issues. It seems that you get into the 100s in the summer but we stay consistently high 80s low 90s. My question is why won't some of the plants survive here? Is it because it needs the cold weather to go on to the next year?

I wish Proven Winners would open their own nursery in the Bay Area. Our nurseries are extremely boring & limited here. I'm actually considering driving over an hour away to Sacramento, to shop at Green Acres nursery. Not wasting anymore time with local stores.

I have an area that, because of the direction and a fence/trees, gets no direct sunlight at all. It gets fairly bright indirect light but no rays of sun actually touch it. Is that still considered shade? Deep shade? Good luck, you better just pave over it? :D

Great video! Plant tags are SOO important. I'm a total magpie at the garden centre. I see pretty flowers and pretty foliage and want them all. Looking at tags and working out what will actually survive is the only reason my credit cards aren't maxed! ;)
