Wow, I came across your video's by chance as I tend to like the kind of lifestyle choice your video heading showed. two years alone in the wilderness After watching that that one, I watched everything else I could find. After watching this particular one, I had no idea your past and mine were practically identical. You have a warm humbleness about you that is quite captivating. Your skill as a craftsman and woodsman are obvious. I sincerely hope and pray for you and your family as you take on this endeavor. I myself am retired and though am physically unable to do what you do, remember with great fondness the days that I once did. Old age and a back that gave up after years of abuse has me tackling smaller mountains these days!
As for things that might be interesting for people to learn at your school? Heating alternatives, like chimney options, ovens, stove's etc. Bee keeping perhaps. ( I kept bees for over 25 years myself. It's not only very easy, but is rewarding and can be used for both barter and profit. I love the fact that there is finally someone who teaches how to use hand tools!

I know of very few people who, at some point, don't encounter stress whether emotional or physical. Emotional is worse than anything since you drag it around with you never being able to get out from under it. You did well with yours when it could have torn your family apart, which happens to a good many people. Being honest and having a clear conscience contributes to eliminating a good part of that battle. I hope sincerely that people listen to your comments and take them to heart. You send a great message. I know how the clear conscience works personally and it is because of it, I have done much and gone further that i could ever have without it. I can tell you are a good man Shawn and I am only sorry I don't live closer to you so meeting you would be more possible. I live in Central Oregon, right smack dab in the Middle of the Deschutes National Forest. so we share a good many things in that regard although I am about 30 years your senior. Keep at it pal, you are an inspiration to many. Mike

Wow Shaun, I had no idea! . about the crisis you had gone through. jeez. That economic fall of 2008 wipedme out as well and caused me to uproot but I only wish I had started my off grid dream then because it Took me to Oregon (a wonderful and beautiful place to be off grid) But instead Im back in South Carolina doing the same thing before the crisis, almost 12 yrs later trying to get back to Oregon to start an off grid life for my wife and I. This time I will not fail, and your videos and knowledge help my decisions and are teaching me a few things I didnt know, especially advice on how to find land and off grid earnings. which I still need to find some of your videos to catch up on. Anyway keep keeping on my friend and I wish you all the luck and health that this life can provide.

WOW, am I a little behind, (2 years, Oh well, listen, a good friend of mine has told me something that I've learned to live by, God will not put more on your plate than you can eat. Shawn, I've seen you eat, (LOL, and that tells me that you are a strong man and able to carry a heave load without breaking, besides that, you married a beautiful Redheaded Lady who most likely is the push behind everything you do! So, any time you think things are maybe a little too hard to handle, just remember that that Lady who is standing behind you is carrying not only the same load, but she is also carrying you as well. Oh ya, God made our women to carry us, in His image!

Hey Shawn. Listened to your experiences and what you realised about the important things in life and I went through the same thing about 5 or 6 years ago. Kudos to you brother for focusing on doing the right thing, valuing the things that are important in life, staying honest and true and finding your way back. It is truly a liberating thing to find yourself at rock bottom and climbing your way back shows us that we we cannot despair if we believe that we can pick ourselves up and learn from the experience and live better lives. Truly inspirational - even for someone like me who went through the same thing!

I watch several homestead videos on YouTube because I cut the cord (cable tv) and watch very little tv anymore. That's how I found you.
Most of the people I just watch and sometimes laugh at some of the things they try to do, they're learning. But you it different, you're like
a friend that I want to help, cause I've been through some of the same things. We seem to share a lot, although I've never been in the financial troubles you were. To bad you can't sue some of the crooks that worked for you. Talk later

Once again, I am overwhelmed by your comments, not only on this video, but on the last three in particular as well. I have to thank everyone who made suggestions on what alternative name I should call my rants. As you can see by the title, I really liked My Self Reflections, although there are many other great suggestions that I may incorporate later (like Log Jams for the fireside chats with guests.
Thanks again for watching and for your incredible comments - you truly inspire me!

OK, so the more videos I watch, the more I am finding ones I haven't seen yet, but, I am having a great time discovering each one. Love your humility, your honesty and your hard work, not to mention your will to succede. Truly amazing. Addictive and inspiring. I am learning so much from your videos, I have convinced myself that I could build that log cabin I have hankered after, from watching wild west movies as a teenager. I just need to find me some bush

wow so inspiring. I always wanted to build a cabin when I was younger. still wish I could. maybe if I had someone to buy a property with and build 2 cabins on it. I can do some stuff. like cooking and splitting firewood, holding things or hammering things in place. but not all that heavy physical stuff as I am 60 now. but I really LOVE what you are doing. I would love to live off grid in the woods. I am learning a lot from you as you go along. thank you!
