I GOT HURT Building a PRIMITIVE KITCHEN in the Forest

kitchen I cut myself building the primitive kitchen in the forest while I was hand-carving a wood door for the traditional clay wood-fired pizza oven. Despite the setback, I was able to accomplish a lot this week, including building wooden countertops, making a DIY sink handcrafted out of metal, splitting firewood, working on the earthen oven and training my dog Cali the golden retriever for the upcoming season

If you are like me, i find it a little bit of a worry that retrievers are just a bit too friendly and dont seem to sence danger very well.
I live in Australia where sadly we have a lot of dangerous things, so i am forever keeping an eye on the dog as he is game to play with the snakes which are a damm sight faster than he is, there is no way i can instill a sence of danger to him other than to call him away quickly.
I know that wolves can be touchy depending at what is going on so it really is a matter of luck, and hopefully he has been lucky so far, he is four now and i am sure he as yet has not fully grown up plus he is willfull when he feels like it, gratefully he still pays attention to treats when offered, its not that he is not a smart dog, he knows how to open doors and windows but they can always be locked which do defeat him.
With Cali i think it would be bears that would really worry me as they are very quick when they want to be.
Sorry about the finger, i know what thats like, i took all the fingers off my left hand, my wife and i found four which after two hours the hospital manage to put back on, at leat they are there even if they dont work as well as they use to which was a bit of a blow as playing the piano was a big hobby for me, and although i have adapted it no where near what they were, but that life, we all make mistakes, lets hope yours heals up well all the best.

The maple oven door looks superb! LIKE! You reminded me of the words of Richard Proenneke, to the effect that a man working alone in the woods is far more careful than two or more. Glad you're okay, and that the lesson will be valuable. You are generally so conscious of time efficiencies, and you already had waist-height workpiece holders available, I was squirming in my boots anticipating the injury to which your vid title was a spoiler. Speaking of which, you waste so much time picking up wood between splitting strikes. why not set up multiple timber cuts with a waist-band of some sort (there are many options) which would facilitate splitting multiple pieces without continually having to put down the axe, reset the logs to be split again, picking up the axe? It would seem that you (like me) are going to be splitting wood for a long time. Enjoy!

ha ha ha. I'm a female, and I'm addicted to watching you, building, and puttering away. My dad was the same as you, always doing something. He too, never needed instructions, follow patterns etc. He was handy, and my brother is the same way too. I lost most of my vision to glucoma, and was never afraid of tackling jobs around the house either. I enjoyed it. Wish my husband got off his lazy duff, and gain some knowledge from you. Kind of late for us, we're both in our 60's, but hopefully you have some younger people watching, and a hint of advice, pay attention to whats going on here. You might learn something, and save your self some money one day, doing it yourself. This guy knows what he's doing, and you'd be learning from one of the best.

I am a retired RN and I keep a tube of super glue in my med kit. Once the bleeding stops and you can put pressure on the wound without it bleeding again, push the tip of the finger down lightly closing the cut and seal it with super glue on the outside without getting the glue inside the wound. Once it sets you can add some more around the wound creating a hard patch over the incision if you will. Now cover the finger so you dont rip off the patch and wait a week. It will be the fastest healing wound you will ever see. Yes, they use a medical form of super glue in the hospital all the time.

We got them damn hybrids wolves here un western North Carolina. There a mix of Timberwolves and the big Texas coyotes. They brought them in to control the deers, BUT they've decimated the small game. Especially the rabbits population. I seen the first rabbit last week. That's the first one in a few years now. I shoot them dame coyotes every chance I get, night or day I feed um a hot lead supper. The manggie bastard's.

I enjoy your videos and life lessons. Concerned about your health. At 51 I failed an insurance health test because the sugar count. I went to a doctor and she said I have type 2 diabetes. She referred me to a cardialogist. Long story short I had a quad bypass. I thought I was healthy, played tennis 3 days a week.
Do your self a favor and get a full physical

Shawn this is old news probably but I learned something when I was in the military we use super glue to close wounds really fast and I've used it before when I've cut myself and been alone. You can buy the kits. One last thing have two size tourniquets with you at all times when working in the woods.

Invest in super glue and and those cut resistant gloves. Or make a different shaving horse for clamping bigger projects. If you dont' know about him look for books by Roy Underhill The Wood Wright's Shop is a good one to start with. He mainly works with old style hand tools

One of the old wood working bench with vice or the great hold down tools could make that accident maybe not happen, But it's hard to get everything ready for use
Really you have lots done, and no body can do much better you have done great.
Thanks
