logs, a snowmobile, sharp axes and knives, a chainsaw - what could possibly go wrong! Daniel: Hi Shawn. I don't know what kind of camera you're using but I'll guess it's a DSLR. I have the same issue with noise when camera is focusing. I worked around that with an external microphone. If you do in fact use a DSLR, you can add a boom mic on top or any other mic really. I use a clip on mic with a 20 feet cord so that I can wear it and talk to the camera or just tie it to my camera stand when I want to film something. That takes care of the noisy lens. You can't hear it no more. Hope this helps. Other benefit of that is the sound is much much better.

Gosh, that snow yall were in must be every bit of 4 ft. or more. yall almost got lost in it. Never worry about lens stuff or anything. hope you didn't hurt your leg too bad. but, I'll watch no matter what you and Cali are doing. I just love watching Cali anyway. she does the same thing with you, that my little dog does with me. always bringing me one of her toys to throw. lol. Cali loves playing that game with you a lot, I noticed in a lot of your videos. Take care and hope you have a better day tomorrow. Stay warm and safe, you and Cali, Shawn!

I actually had to use 2 logs for my ridge pole due to the length. My ridge pole is 65' long and 19 diameter and finding one that long with minimum taper was proving to be a challenge. I have mine split in the center of the house on a ridge pole support log with the taper going to the outsides. I cant get over how you work in such cold conditions!

The early European settlers saved the burls on trees they cut to make wooden bowls, mostly Maple I believe but perhaps ash as well. White oak would hold liquid. It's possible they learned that from the Native Americans. If they could make a dugout canoe, they could surely make a bowl.

I hope that you always carry your phone in your pocket while you're doing all of this strenuous work. Walking through that deep snow could be too much on your heart. Hope your knee is okay. God bless you, your family and your cabin. Stay safe out there.

Wish I was 30 years younger, I would have enjoyed doing this kind of lifestyle. However I did rough
it without running water, and much more withouts. You remind me how much work it all is, and yet worth every moment. Your family/wife blesses you.

Shawn thanks for the video love your chanel. Seen you bring down a lot of trees, know you are re-working the land but are interested to see when you will be planting some new trees to replace the ones you have harvested?

Sometimes I think you have the sound recording off but then I hear a bird or snow crunching as Cali runs through it. I love when that happens. (sorry about your camera lens.

You could use a good gas powered winch for pulling those logs out. I noticed you're using a chain saw here as well. A winch with a snatch block would sure come in handy.

Cali is so fun to watch, she is energetic, playful and demanding the same time
Very funny when she brings her toy to him to play with her
She needs a camera too
