sauna What an incredible week at the log cabin in the Canadian wilderness! On Sunday and Monday, we got 6 inches of snow on top of the 3 feet that still blankets the ground, but a hot sun and seasonal, mild temperatures over the following two days finally started to melt the snowpack, making for difficult walking and sledding conditions. I fire up the woodburning stove in the Finnish sauna to melt the snow on the floor, but it's still just too cold to make melt it enough to install the wood floor. I do get one of the windows in and I build the dividing wall between the sauna/shower section and the front change area. Tune in to my other YouTube channel, Shawn James, to see where I got the aromatic cedar planks for the floor and the walls. I make a batch of about 3 gallons of maple syrup and then I pull the taps out of the trees because the weather is changing rapidly and the good sap is about over. Working up a healthy appetite working in the bush and on the sauna, I cook several hearty meals, including venison (deer) cheeseburgers, trout with maple syrup glaze, venison burger with runny eggs for breakfast, venison steaks for dinner and lunch

When I was 8 or 9 we were living in Beloeil Quebec. This was around the centennial, 1967. It was not unusual for us kids to outfit ourselves and traverse a dangerous train tressel bridge, crossing the Richelieu River, to get to Mt. St. HIllaire, an extinct volcano As we made our way up the winding mountain road there were often Sugar Camps where locals made maple syrup. A sideline for these habitants was also a still. They had no problem selling us kids a bottle of distilled spriits for a dollar. One of our neighbours was the famous 'Gump Worsley, a goaltender for the Habs. Back then a Hall of Fame goaltender had to have a job in the off=season, and the Gump was a salesman for Seagrams. His son Dean was one of my pals and always came on these camp outs We would build a camp, strip down to our shorts and sit around the fire, passing the hooch. Hard to believe this could happen today. Quite often my mother did not even know that I had been away for a couple of days. The maple sugar making reminded me of that.

My son who is six is very concerned with the amount of coffee you drink. he says that you should just go into town and buy a lot of Gatorade.
We are new to following you but we're really digging it!

Shawn, you have to stop cooking those delicious meals, I've gained 10 pounds since I started watching your video's. Love your cabin and especially Callie. She is so patient and loving.

Dude be eating a shit ton of meat-don't get me wrong, I'm not a crazed vegan on rampage or anything. But you're not getting any younger, man. Be careful what you put in your body!

Love the video, big thumbs up! Gotta say though I enjoyed the clips of you working without the music and just the sounds of the bush rather than the music. Cheers!

Is the maple syrup available for purchase? I think I have gained weight looking at the fantastic meals. What time do you usually eat, incase I'm in the area? LOL!
