This is Way Harder Than I Expected Building an Off Grid Workshop

Building an off grid workshop, a tiny cabin, with heavy hemlock timbers is taking way longer than I expected - it's heavy work and cutting, shaping and fastening the timbers together is tedious and time consuming. Temperatures are dropping quickly and the first snow of the season falls on the cabin while local wildlife is very active preparing for winter - moose, deer, fox and bear show up on my trail cameras around the homestead

Hi Shawn,
I've never commented on any social media environments till I started watching your videos. What you started (of course including your circle of support - your wife, children, friends, other watchers) is a phenomena.
It's an ancient story, and you're playing your part of the protagonist (hero) so well. You're open and speak honestly about your thoughts and feelings, which is a great quality.
I have a question. What is your mentality that you can get through the roadblocks? (Physical, emotional, mental)
Thank you.
Analyn
Sure enough I've found my physical limitation. at 18: 12 of this video. But what's the deeper core source of your strength?

reply

It's harder cause you are older but keep up the great attitude and press on, things will be better.
My grand father would say. There will be a better day
When I heard that you were moving on, I felt sad cause you once loved that place and worked so hard doing a great job building it.
I'm sure things will work out. I like the square logs.

Will you keep this cabin when you move? I am soo confused where you ate moving to verses this place. If your moving this os soo much work to not keep it. Love this wood, some of my favorite, besudes cedar as it has a musky rich smell also! Yoir such a genius & courageous. Blessings in all your change for 2020 clear vision!

EH. Are you kidding me? Phenomenal work Shawn but trust me, I tried to change a wheel on a small truck many years ago when I was younger. have never been the same since, just one wrong angle is all it takes. Look after yourself. All the best from Ireland!

I designed and built log cabins for the KOA system and Private cabins for years. This brought be back to lifting the big logs up and over. one question, why didn't you put a thermal break between the logs? great looking spot for a cabin for sure.

So what I am curious to know, is whether you have to pay property taxes on the buildings you are errecting, and if you have to get building permits? As any off grid dwellings still need to be built to code in Ontario.

Mentioning your back again you're not going to have a back after that that's tough lifting like that and you should not do that you should have help I don't man I just worry about your back
reply

Okay Shawn, this is taking Linkin Logs to a whole new level, lol. I got a little nervous watching you climb up there and lifting in an awkward position. Cali looked beautiful and golden

I worry about his back. I was a strong and fit Man until that one wrong lift. Now 25 years and 5 back surgeries later I can lecture on the importance of not over lifting.

I built a log home with logs just like those, corners and all. Very hard work but very gratifying. I did however use a generator and power tools and it's still hard work.
