I take a day off the homestead to fish with a couple of friends (Jim Baird and Muskoka Nate, catching over 100 fish and cooking a few on a campfire beside the river. I keep the fish guts and heads to compost with sawdust in my forest garden. I mill gable end posts with an Alaskan chainsaw mill and prepare them for installation this week as I start framing the roof of the log cabin.

Your video brought back good memories- thank you.
My dad made, what we called the Canadian canoe when we were kids, we had some great times in the water ways here in New Zealand.
He sold that canoe to a guy who had lost his legs in a horrific accident.
The man was looking for a way that he too, could spend some quality time with his kids.
The canoe was light so, his wife, or mates were able to do the lifting for him.
Had to smile too at your heading - we had a really close bond with our neighbours when we lived in the city.
Since living off the grid some 7 hours north, l only see them now when l travel down to visit family.
However our new neighbours are quickly becoming good friends too.
They are arranging a birthday surprise for my hubby tonight at the super rugby dinner gathering.
Definitely did not expect that - so good of them.

The biggest wow I ve ever seen with you (and maybe the top ten of all of YT) is when you ice-skated at sunset. Upon reflection, it could well have been a free-thinking moment when you needed to decide how to move freely away without all second guessing your plans and without alienating your priorities.
Certainly beat that guy on a bear video meme!
If you could have a horse(s, - I suspect you can ride - would it be a light legged one that could negotiate snow when hunting, or a heavy horse; less nimble?
Is your sister still making contamination free hay?

Have you ever thought about making secret signs that have labels on them of what kind of vegetables/food you're growing if you ever wake up and forget? Or make like a map of your garden in a notebook or something that reminds you where you planted what? Maybe you don't need it. I don't know. I never gardened before. I would appreciate there being signs though reminding me what is growing there. All the stalks and leaves confuse me. Especially the food that grows underground and all the parts of it growing above ground isn't even the edible parts.

I am glad that you could spend quality time with your friends! Cali is one happy dog. I never tire of watching all the skills you have, logging, fishing, hunting, building and Cali you are and have been an inspiration Shawn to a lot of people and your daughter Emily, wonderful young lady. Have a lovely week end. I have watched you from the very beginning of the build of your other cabin and I am so pleased when I see another video has been posted. Stunning sunset. Greetings from the UK.

Nice trip, a good stringer is right, I am on Lake St, Clair, we get Walleye pretty much all year, or the St. Clair River is great too. A well deserved fishing trip was overdo, you have had a very busy spring with that monster garden and all, anytime you are pan frying fish by a river that you just caught is a good day indeed, loved the fire frying pan thrown in there, all the best, can t wait for the roof.

I love the sassy yes, I have some in the title: D
Are you still friends with Joe and Doug? Haven't collab with them in years! I'd really love to see you three together again, although I understand you all live far of each other and are each very busy. I believe they both (or at least Doug) was building the longhouse with you so that's the last time you've been in a video together I think.

I put my doberman girl to sleep 2 weeks ago after her being my faithful companion for 13 1/2 years. And right now, I am pretty lost without her. It did my heart good to see beautiful Cali, out and about, doing her thing. I enjoyed the video of fishing and you building the cabin. Thanks for the video share.

One of the rare time outs for you but it is summer. A man always on the go working. Well the project is taking shape and all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. Great footage of the Canadian Wilderness. Thanks and happy Canada Day to you, family and friends. Enjoy it.

Your other nearby homestead was beautiful and I loved so many things you built there, but this property seems so amazing. Access to water, ground that appears much easier to make a garden, and sunshine. How is Cali doing with the heat this year?
