Reflecting back on the last 2 years spent building an off grid log cabin alone in the Canadian wilderness. Thanks for watching and Happy New Year! This video is the full version of the 9 minute video on my other channel (Shawn James, which you can watch here: They both document just the log cabin exterior build, not the creation of the rest of the wilderness homestead, such as the outhouse, food gardens, greenhouse, etc, which can be viewed weekly or by following along in the Playlists on both channels. I'll create and upload an interior cabin video once it's finished later this winter.

As one who is trapped in the increasingly severely spiritually sin sick sickening sodomite-sanctuary subverted Socialist stronghold of Toronto, you so wisely got out of this increasing hellacious hellhole at the right time. I will not lie, for you to have done more so than not this work by your lonely, it IS profoundly impressive due to what is involved to achieve such a finished project and the hard-work difficulty, required fortitude and adeptness in doing it through all seasons, for one needs not only physical strength being good/trained in such required doyen skills with ones hands, but strength of spirit, soul, mind, and heart to stay committed / dedicated / diligent / motivated / thorough sticking to doing the job till it's done as desired and doing so as best as one can with the skills and resources at hand _[including what morland stated]. _ Your work ethic and desire to do the job right the first time or do not do it all _[what my late papa taught]_ is exemplary, first-class, laudable and masterly. Thank you from one resident of Canada who gets around on wheels _[crippled]_ to another who doesn't, thank you Shawn for sharing this part of your life with us. May the one and only true God of the Scriptures be yours and your family's guide in all things always, all the best to you in the new year of our Lord.

I've watched alot of your videos and I love every one of them. Very relaxing and helps me get into the right frame of mind to do my tasks for the day. You really are an inspiration.
But I've always been curious. If you had to guess, how many times have you smashed your fingers? How many cuts/stitches? Other injures? You always seem safe and steady. If you have covered that topic on a previous video I apologize I missed it.
Throw one for the pup for me. :)

happy new year Eve. All I can say is that irs beautiful. I m a retired teacher that grew up on a 110acr farm in south Tennessee hunting and fishing. I live 10 min from where Lodge is mmanufacture all except the enamel it s sent to China to have the coated enamel coating done. unfortunately but the rest is forced here in a foundry that operates three shifts they also have a nice outlet store. I m enjoying your video on new year Eve 2022. Have a great New Year

Shawn knows what he is doing. The first part of this video shows why a person should be trained and properly geared to cut trees, especially older, dying trees. Widow makers are limbs and debris falling when trees are being felled. Hangers are trees partially fallen and hanging on other trees. There are so many hangers and widow makers when those trees come down. Shawn clearly watches everything and stays clear.

Reading all the comments, I m coming up short for something catchy or original! Awe is the one that pops up first. As someone who is old enough to be your mom, I can say how proud I am of you and for the man you are at heart. Your work, talent with editing, and warmth when speaking to us, really brightens my day. Happy New Year to you all from Indiana.

I m in awe of your workload.
You ve probably burned and consumed four or five times the calories I have in the past two years.
How many times did you sharpen your adze? (some outstanding work there.
How many tubes of caulk did you use?
Thank you very much for posting this beautifully shot journal.
All the best for the New Year.

Shawn James is the man most responsible for me taking a chance and moving my entire family out to the middle of nowhere in North Idaho. Thank you, Shawn, for helping me to find myself out here in the Wilderness. I didn't even know it was possible for me to be able to build with my hands the way I have. My entire family thanks you!

That s quite the craftsmanship you have. That takes a lot of knowledge and know how to do something that complex let alone doing it by yourself and document your build. I so wished I would have done something like this in my life. It would take the rest of my days to do it now. A tip of my hat goes to you sir.

Amazing. That's such a good job, something i wouldnt be able to do, at least not with the same heavy trees, being a woman. Lighter branches would be possible for me but not those big trees. And that is why man and woman need each other. Unfortunately its not always easy to find. Just thinking out loud.

I have also been inspired by Shawn. My wife and I moved up north not that far from Shawn's homestead. I have a smaller house with only 6 acres. We are starting the next period of our lives. Greenhouse is on order and looking to add some sort of supplementary power system. Thank you Shawn. Happy New Year

Bravo! Bravo! Bravo! Here's to everything everyone else has expressed! Thank you for letting us relive the long version, it brought me chills as I watched the expertise of excellence being unfolded. Happy New Year Mr. James, family and Cali, you sure have entertained and educated me the past few years.

I've thoroughly enjoyed watching your journey from start to finish. I'm chuckling to myself as I imagine environmentalists cringing in unity at the sight and sound of falling trees while sipping on their lattes as they scroll on their phones in some metropolis. Nice job Shawn.

Happy New Year Shawn, as we say Goodbye to 2022 and Welcome 2023 you have a lot to be proud of mainly being able to replicate Dick Proenneke in his move to Alaska in his 50's - he lived almost another life in the wilderness. Wishing you and your family the best for 2023!

Did you mean to not burn the notches on the basement framing? Hey Shawn can you add a day counter that tells how many days have past as the video plays through? like at 15 minutes maybe that was day 16 how many days have you been working on building and the progress
