dog A question I get often is what does Cali, my golden retriever, eat at the cabin. In addition to dry dog food, she eats whatever I'm eating plus marrow bones and other raw meat

Meal or by product basically is everything that is left over from the animal after all the good stuff is removed for humans. There is a few thing's to stay away from when looking for a decent dog food. #1 try to stay away from heavy grains such as corn, wheat, and all gluten- containing grains and no gmo's. # 2 absolutely stay away from by-product meal, or any meat product with meal next to it. Almost all of the cheaper based dog foods is not gonna be a good food to feed your pet. There are a lot of good dog food for a decent price that won't break the bank like, taste of the wild, blue buffalo, victor, and many more. I would definitely stop feeding your dog that food Shawn there is a ingredient in the called dcp and it can be toxic depending on where it's sourced and another thing is that that ingredient is listed pretty high up on the ingredient list which is cause for concern because the ingredient goes by the amount used so if chicken meal is listed first it means that it's the most used ingredient in there. I personally would recommend taste of the wild or blue buffalo, both use actual quality meat/vegetable/fruits and have the omega 3/6 fats in them. The best food you can feed your dog is actual raw food so that's great your feeding cali that. The cheese always keep In moderation and a good alternative to that is goats milk actually. Goat milk contains vitamins, minerals, electrolytes, trace elements, enzymes, protein, and fatty acids and dogs digest it a lot easier then cheese or other dairy products. I would just try to limit the cheese. One last thing I recommend is to make sure you always cut the vegetables up really good because dogs don't really digest or break them down to well, but they are very beneficial to them because of the vitamins and minerals they contain.

I agree with you regarding the coat information. If you speak to a vet, they will tell you that its not healthy for them.
As far as the food, you are doing best by feeding more table food because she can get better probiotics and prebiotics that way. The reason your dogs live longer is because you are proving this adequate nutrition. If someone couldnt afford table food as you were doing, vets will tell you that animals live longer if the powder prebiotic and probiotics are added on top of a higher dry dog food. Rationally the reason why animals have difficulty in their life span and ailments is simply because the majority of dry dog food is made to be dehydrated in large quantities, via pulling out the nutrients and therefore, causing the shelf life to last longer. Hence, reg dry dog food is basically not healthy for most animals. If supplements arent used, your dear animal loved ones, wont be able to enjoy your family experiences as they truly should be for so many wonderful years to come.
I believe that you have the correct combination of concentration and concepts for feeding your beautiful Cali, especially since youve had numerous experiences prior. She did seem to like the taste of the mixture of that dry food in the box; however, as you know- just like some foods that a dog might like it could destroy their vital organs like eating grapes.

Chicken meal made from bones, organs unfortunately there's minimal regulations, sometimes put in unhealthy chickens for meal.
I wouldn't pick Blue Buffalo dog food, the company uses all types veggies, fish an such sound good but, use a huge pressure cooker all the vitamins go out in the Air. Any food looks black in color worthless.
Our cats get fed Friskies dry, has roasted carrots an beans, we have no problem.
Cats get raw hamburger an chicken livers plus cat food cans from Friskies.
During the year may want to get Cali some boiled deli ham, reason for the Salt keeps them cooler in warm weather an may keep Cali cooler while woodstove going in cabin. Easy for her chew.
Raw livers give Iron an some vitamin B's.
Your videos take me away from life here in southern Pennsylvania always hope move in the mountains away from society. Which I am grateful for.
At least my ashes will go there. Lok

Videos like this one are much appreciated. It's obvious that you love and care for Cali just like any good person would. but, your desire to share input from others, that shows that you truly want the best for her. Kudos to you for that.
I also appreciate how you incorporate her playfulness and antics in all of your videos. She's such a presence, and appreciated source of connection for so many of us. I'd love to have a dog, but have held back doing so, simply because I work so much and don't feel it'd be fair for an animal to be cooped up all alone day after day. So, it's a real treat for me to be able to enjoy vicariously through other peoples' pets and relationships with them.

She is so active and healthy. Love the way when you, Mrs James, and your daughter's feed cali you make her wait, then tell her ok cali I use to do that with my Rusty now an Angel. I could never get another dog after my rusty went home. I do have a cat. Thank you Shawn. Hugs cali from Australia xx

Royal Canin was prescribed by our vet. My little terrier mix was overweight and had kidney issues. Hes lost six pounds in the past couple years and the weight loss has brought the puppy in him back. He turned 15 in December and is starting to slow down, of course, but Im convinced this prescription dog food has prolonged his life. Even feed it to my 5 pound diva, (chihuahua) and she loves it as well. Cali is thriving because youre such an awesome daddy, and your videos are so inspiring.

Our three pups (black lab female, small blonde and fawn shepherd mix and young black and white lab/pit mix) eat twice a day, fish in olive oil/premium dry/dried fruit in the morning and dry premium in the evening plus a dental stick. We treat with fruit, carrots, plain yogurt, peanut butter, string cheese and the occasional market treat or roast bit.

Its pretty important not to give her any dog food made in China or Taiwan. Whatever you choose, even if it says Made in the USA, or Canada, in your case, there still could be vitamins or other ingredients that are outsourced to China or Taiwan. I give my dogs Blue Buffalo or CORE Wellness. They arent cheap but shes worth every penny.

I think most dog food is crap. Sounds good for filling a dogs stomach but U are in a position to give ur dog a lot of raw meat which is what her ancestors ate. Ask ur Vet & then feed her a diet that will most likely keep her from getting cancer, which is what most dogs die from. They put the most disgusting things in dog food
