Wow that's is a CRAZY amount of ashes! It's way too much! Adding wood ash in such quantities kills soil life, it compacts soils, and it prevents the formation of mycorhizae! Everything that you want, gone because of a bucket of ash. When you have this much organic matter in a soil, this much humus, you don't need to worry if it's a little acidic. Honestly just lay off the ash, this is a crazy amount that you're putting in.

Hello Shawn! Place looks great! I do remember using an old stone boat for moving rocks around. We had an old horse for this. I don't know what they used for fertilizer but those rocks grew big in our old farm. I think picking rocks had to be the worst job I ever had. A long day doing this - I think this is were I learned to swear up a storm. Ha ha ha!

I changed from raising chickens to rabbits for meat. During the summer i feed for free and im in the desert. More sustainable for rabbit feed than chicken feed. I do keep 10 egg layers to keep us in eggs though. But we easily get 500lbs of meat off our rabbits per year.

Interested in watching this for the sled especially. we have a lot of stones to move on our land as well. We're like-minded homesteaders down in Virginia, and have learned a great deal from you (or validated our approaches that are similar to yours.

Cali is slowing down, which is good. We don't want her to get heat stress again. She is already a lot warmer than we are. My big black dog (part rott) jumps in a water filled kitty pool when we work outside. I wish I had your strength, Shawn!

A question: Hemlock, especially those grown in ornamental plantings, are prone to aphids. Do you have a similar problem with the trees in your forest (just wondering if harvesting them cuts down on this problem)

Now I was thinking Dad if I planterdf my orange toy down deep, it might double in size and there for I could get 2 toys by next winter but you spoiled that by pulling it out and throwing it for me to go fetch.

nice. i made a rock sled out of an old shallow plastic wheel barrow and put some wooden sled runners on it. it held up pretty well. good luck. it's a workout for sure; at least i counted as one.

I do like the little graphic pieces of information you added. Just the right amount for the things that aren't obvious but not so much that it distracts from your great cinematography. Thanks.

Your soil on the homestead must be so rich from thousands of years' leaf mulch, animal droppings etc. It is great to see you also planning timbers for future biilding projects too.

I’m not sure why you try to use 3000 year old technology, when you have an excellent modern device to do the job without giving yourself a Hernia!

10x14 Chicken coop might be better. Then you can have a small room for a diesel heater,
and room for your solar panel control.
