The snow slowly melts this week as I clean up my workshop site and build 2 eight foot work benches, one low and one high, from a diseased massive yellow birch tree I cut down beside my timber workshop. There is a satisfying sound when working with wood, with the heart of trees. The crisp noise of the drill, the saw and the adze and drawl knife. It is a spiritual connection with the trees and Mother Earth a the gift of creativity. Something unexplainable until you feel that spiritual bond with everything around you. I often say that each of us is an artist to some degree. Making a work bench, maple syrup, an apple pie or the ability to be of service to others. We often will surprise ourselves when we decide to tackle a project we may not feel that we are able to achieve. We have this great gift of creativity and Shawn, it’s an energy you share with us and we so much enjoy watching and are inspired by. The Beauty of that land and Cali always by your side being part of it all, your Family. It is a joy and pleasure to watch your homestead grow and improve and develop with all the Love and Connection that you and your Family have with the land. Thank You So Much and Many Blessings with all the Abundance that Mother Earth gives! DaveyJO in Pennsylvania

That was funny with Cali. She was like well if I lay my head on my toy maybe he won't throw it and I can rest. Darn it he threw it anyways.
Ok I'll teach him. I'm going to go get it and lay down out there in the snow in the woods and rest and cool off.
that'll teach him

Inspector Cali James appears to be on top of things and has given her approval to continue with construction (a good thing for you, Shawn.
I really like watching your craftsmanship in felling, debarking, shaping, slabbing, and ultimately utilizing the timbers on your land.

Yea Calli, Nothing beats a good swim at the end of a long day, fetching and watching Dad as he makes new things. While you Shawn pick up an injury when you least expect one. Life of a back woodsman, never dull.
reply

Shawn, a great way to quickly & efficiently debark logs is a tile scrapper from your local hardware store. Sharpen it similar to your slick & you can do it standing & with great leverage.

Always worth the effort you put into it to make the best version possible for your needs.
You have come a long way Shawn and we all look forward to seeing what you’ll do next.

Un abrazo fraterno para vos y Cali, es muy lindo lo que has hecho, te sigo desde el primer video. Cuando hablas no lo veo. NO HABLO INGLES. PERO CUANDO MOSTRAS TU TRABAJO. LO VEO TODO
reply

At the start you showed about 5 minutes of you skinning that log with your draw knife and I thank you for the condensed version, but in reality how long would it have taken
reply

Sir I watched you work on that bench the whole video and I kept wondering how are you gonna get that over on its legs and you never showed it how did you do it
reply

I have never seen a log fight you like that one. Whatever you are going to make out of it, it doesn’t seem to want to be. Even the stump is like, nope.
reply

make a table for the next project, you use an entire giant tree to make it and it weighs up to 400 pounds when it's standing up. I think it's very sturdy.
reply

Been watching you for 5yrs now. now you at your best. Wood working just like your plan from the start. Keep up with the good things you like to do
reply

Shawn! How strange to see you hurt! always so strong! and that you show yourself real and vulnerable. it makes me want to heal you and take care of you!
reply

Sir I have to ask you I waited the whole video to watch you turn that bench over on its legs and you didn’t show it. How did you manage it
reply

I thought that you were going to turn the small cabin/shop 180 degrees so the doors face the space that you cleared. Anyway, great job!
reply

Hahah I said the same thing today about him. What the hell is he doing was my exact words also. I laughed when I read your post Sean.
reply

Cali seems to be saying. Why does he keep throwing his toy. I keep bringing it back and protecting it, for him to just throw it again.
