Early autumn is busy, balancing food harvests with outdoor projects that need to get done before the snow flies later this month! I harvest a bull moose with my longbow and wood arrows at 4 yards, install half a cedar shingle roof, hook up the woodstove and have the first cooking and heating fires of the season on my off grid log cabin and woodshop. Log Cabin Building, Bushcraft, Survival Skills, Cooking, Canadian Wilderness, Off Grid Living, Homesteading Hi, I'm Shawn James. I am a passionate outdoorsman living the life of my dreams in a log cabin that I built by myself in the Canadian wilderness. Join me and my golden retriever, Cali and listen to the sounds of the forest in this relaxing wilderness setting. I prefer to keep my talking to a minimum and let the natural sounds of nature make you feel as though you are there with me. You have most likely got this comment before but, you're using a ton of modernized materials. Wouldn't self reliance mean you craft or at least have the capability to craft the materials you use in your builds. A lot of the materials you use only come from factories using chemicals and very sophisticated practices. It's almost as if you've inadvertently reverted to your white collar tendencies. Good on you for the work you do either way. Just thought I'd bring up the topic.

cool video
the stove pipe fitting at the top inside the shop looks like it goes down to 6 inch then at the bottom connecting to the stove looks like 8 inch I am confused by this because when you were holding the fitting it was definitely 6 inches judging by your hand holding it unless you have giant hands hopefully I will not lay awake trying to figure out this.

Cheers Shawn. A man respected for all his hard work to sustain his family the way we were meant to. So called Progress’ certainly hasn’t done much for society. You’re a shining example of a good man living off the land. Thanks for sharing your adventures and it’s good to see you having a good time now more often

Come on Shawn safety first, should be wearng a wrist and arm strap when firing arrows at anything, be it a target or a live animal. Cali if you stay in one position long enough, you will recieve mother natures bonus of the fall with leaves covering your back, so best get dad to fling your toys so you keep active.

If I had a replicator I would replicate everything you've made, all of it, structures, garden, furniture, landscape, cellar filled with food, if I had a replicator. The only other place I would replicate would be Deetjens Big Sur Inn in Big Sur, California, trees, creek, everything. Cindy

I enjoy all your videos on what you are building, but what I don't lije at all is you killing the animals, specially because they are not attaking you so your life is not in dangerous. I ferl very very sorry for them. And know your are preparaba for the dear's season.
reply

Why not let the animal to live I enjoy your videos but this part where you kill the animals that did not do anything against you. If you want to kill, there is plenty of predators, communists. Those are a real danger, but these beautiful animals are de ones endanger.

Another great video Shawn. How rewarding to get a beautiful bull with your own made arrows. Were you able to retrieve your arrow intact or with a pass through or was it broken off. Would look cool with the antlers with the arrow that you harvested the animal with

Just a suggestion. I would prefer to have longer transition between camera angles. You switch too fast for some scenes and it’s hard to enjoy craftsmen ship. I would prefer to see more as you build for example in this video I barely saw the roof that you were building

You don't need a full length hammer for tiling or shingling, a cut down with the overlap and overhang marked on it is better, just drop it in your nail bag. I prefer a slater's hammer but that's because I have mostly done slating, they have a pretty short handle too!

You mentioned deer season coming up, will you be hunting on your families various properties, and for how many tags as family Guess you'll need more freezers For trophy clean out maybe some hydrogen peroxide would help remove stubborn materials

Your draw and release appear to be fairly consistent. So you are candidate to use bareshaft tuning on those arrows. Best thing I did to assure my missiles were well-matched to my bows. Good luck with your hunts in balance of season!

Thanks, I learned something. Mesh under the cedar shakes. Is that for air in case any moisture gets in I have a small wood shed / sugar shack / tool area I was thinking of shaking.

You're a good man Shawn. I don't know anyone that works harder to build a healthier and better environment and home than you.
