another good video. Maize is one of my hobby grains. I did a lot of research in the early 80's during college concerning the history of maize and it's uses. Maize is a very deceptive crop for humans. It can create large stock piles, store forever yet create hideous conditions (pellagra for one, once widespread here in the south. A diet high in Maize lacks the building blocks to for the uptake of niacin (due to deficiency of lysine. It is interesting that the central American native discovered or were taught (that is another story) that by treating water with wood ash and soaking maize in this alkaline water that the the deficiency of lysine was ameliorated. In other native cultures the addition of sufficient quantifies of beans help complete dietary protein uptake. When maize was first introduced to Italy, -polenta- created a an outbreak of pellagra. Here in the south this was remedied by making and using homey. It is one of the easy things to make in camp. dry maize, ashes from the fire (hardwood ash) and water to make tortillas and such. This allows for wet grinding of maize.
As for Gete I have seen this squash on other sites concerning with gene preservation. I have never had the opportunity to plant any. I suppose I will, we have a small garden spot at our bush camp.
thanks again. always of interest.

In life it is a rare and wonderful thing to find a man with character worth praise. If we are so blessed by our Creator we should at every opportunity openly proclaim this character, not for the sake of the man but in hopes that the man's character will effect others.
I find Chris, that your character is worth mentioning often. I do not suggest that you are without flaws, but rather that your qualities over ride them to an acceptable degree. Just so you know.
I find this video as a proof of both your's and Shawn's character.

PS. Corn Squasch Beens are the 3 siters, they need to grow together in Nativ cultures, for nutriend and structure reasons also for wather sawing. pleace read about gardening of native tribes, so so interesting, they knew it man. I studyed organic agriculture for tropics and subtropics and we still learn from the tribes; )

Yer iv been watching Shawn for some time now, cant believe people complained his trapping video was too gruesome. Its a video of animals being killed! Some people need a safe space ay? Haha. I found him being an archer myself and liking traditional craftsmanship. Great guy.

Very nice arrows there. Also SUPER nice of him to send them along with the seeds. What a surprise that was for you. All his hard work, time, and effort put into them, he must really appreciate you. Oh by the way thanks for your knowledgable video too!

Very interesting. Thanks for posting. WRT fat. remember Atkins diet for us fat guys works by being fats and protein -- because you can't digest fats without carbs. The squashes, corn, etc. are needed to use the fat. Great info.

Fowler's traps looked the most impressive though but he isn't getting anything. How many did he make, 4? Right in the beginning contestants need to start tramping and hunting and fishing sets while their body still has reserves.
