The salmon run is just starting! After a long day on the river, I settle in for a fresh smoked king or chinook salmon cooked in a rock or stone oven at the off grid cabin in the woods. Knife by Hooligan's Forge: These salmon are running from Lake Ontario up the many tributaries. : Mystery Tackle Box: [Use Code BEARDSMAN for your discount! ] The annual salmon run is in full swing, where up to 15, 000 salmon return to the stream in which they are born to complete the life cycle by spawning. We target fresh run salmon to get the most fresh delectable fish meat for dinner. As it is mid-August, the salmon run is just starting so the fish are new to the stream, not too beat up to be eaten. We use row bags from spawning fish tied in a row bag on a small hook. These are drifted down using a float reel or spin reel with a float attached. The main concept is to allow the row bag to slowly drift past the fish and incite a strike. The line is then set rod tip down stream and the fight begins!

Watching your videos for years now, always loved them. Because of you I-ve tried to go out and teach myself to fish, camp, and survive in the wilderness so that I can teach my boys after I learn. -Self taught- for everything. I-ve been trying to learn to fish, but have yet to ever catch anything still. But I was wondering something; why don-t you just immediately reel them in after they-re set good? You let that fish go down the water a bit before he caught it in the water. Is that a rule? Or is there reason for this technique other than tiring them out?

I think what you're supposed to do with an oven like this (or at least, what they did historically) is get it really hot, let the fuel pretty much burn out, then scrape all the remaining wood and ash out and get it as clean as you can, and -then- put the food in, cooking it with only the residual heat that the oven has absorbed.

Was just there on Saturday, would have been cool to run into you. If you haven't fished the rock break wall at the mouth of the river, you're seriously missing out dude haha regardless though, HOPE you had a blast.

Chris, can U write out where one really can order The Woodooboo-Spice. Then also to Europe? I'm very interesting, or should I say- curious to try it out! The finished cooked Salmon just looks great! :D

The small cabin gnomes built a stone oven for Chris! Hmmmm, they must have built a kitchen counter for Chris as well. Could have brushed the syrup on the fish to make a better glaze.

Buff Orpingtons! That's what we're getting once we finish getting our land and I build the coop. Good dual purpose meat/egg bird.
