Cooking Fresh Caught Salmon on Cedar Plank (at the Hobbit House! - Catch and Cook

I cook up a fresh caught salmon I caught over an open fire, smoked to perfection on a cedar plank, and drenched in my own maple syrup and woodobo spice in the woods near the hobbit house. : The catch will be shown in the video coming out on Friday. Mystery Tackle Box: [Use Code BEARDSMAN for your discount! ] The fish is smoked on a light fire, hot and cold smoked, with a few dry logs including maple and cedar. A fish smoker is a traditional way to preserve fish for the long term when done using very small amounts of heat, that is, cold smoked. When a fish is hot smoked, or cooked fully, it tends to trap more moisture inside the fish making it more susceptible to spoiling in the long term. The cold smoking process is a great way to keep fish ready to eat even if you have no means of keeping your fish cool for preservation. No salt or spices are required, but your choice of spice often enhances flavors imparted by the smoking process. Our ancestors would have smoked fish year round, but it would have been a full time job in the fall months so that fish could be eaten throughout the winter

Chris, you should make a smoker shed, like back in the days. It's quick and easy to build. You could even compartmentalize it for whenever you want to give different flavours, when you'll smoke different meats at the same time. So, basically making different small individual rooms. The layout options are endless. Though it would save you a lot of time if you had a smoker shed.

Something even better than salmon with maple syrup is salmon with a glaze made from maple, soy sauce, and whole-grain mustard. It sounds bizarre, but the maple syrup and soy sauce actually make for one of the best sauces I've ever tasted. The mustard is optional, but I highly recommend it, especially if you use Inglehoffer brand mustard (it's expensive, but worth it.

Loved this video. Was so relaxing to watch you work in silence and fun to hear the update as well. Not been keeping up with your videos so much since I binged during first lockdown, but looking forward to watching more from here on!

When winter comes. and it will. Cut ice blocks outta the lake with a chainsaw, cover it in sawdust, probably an inch over top. your root cellar will be cold most of the summer just replenish sawdust from chainsaw.

Hey you got any of that Vinyl flooring left that you used in the Cabin? You could put that on the floor of the hobbit hole. It would be way easier to sweep out.

When I lived up in Alaska we use to hike the lake shores and rivers with a skillet and fishing pole. Skin side down rainbows fried in the pan sooo goood mmmmm

While the only symbol used today, the crescent moon in the door of an outhouse was used to signify female. To signify male a star was used.
