I hunted spring bears in Ontario from '83 to '90 NE of Killarney and near Mactier (got three, 2 with bow. Short story is that if a bait was hit daily or almost daily, and the bear disappeared when a hunter was on the stand, the most likely culprit was the wind. We didn't want the wind blowing into the bush, from which the bear would come. One guide who paid attention to the wind had consistent success, and quickly. Another who ignored the wind would blame the hunters for being noisy. Wind usually changed direction frequently where I was, which made the proposition a bit more of a challenge. The best we could hope for is the wind would be consistent while we were in the tree. Stands 20 feet up helped a little, but if wind was on our side 12 feet high was enough. It is indeed vital to be dead quiet. Twice I saw, or heard, a bedded down bear stand up within 15 yards of the bait. They had been lying there quietly for at least two hours after I got in the tree stand. If I had even cleared my throat, they woulda spooked. You are correct that hunting bears in that area without a bait is pretty futile. I spent 21 days over two years hunting them on the ground with no bait, like I would hunt deer. Never saw one. I also agree failure comes with the territory. With a bow I didn't always get a clear shot and let them walk away. I like your video - even if we get skunked it's worth going!

Not to mention hunting bear by bait is safer for the Hunter. you REALLY don't want to go poking your head in on a bear on their level! .or come across some cute fuzzy wuzzy baby bears and their permanently angry protective mama bear! That's reality! .n hunting keeps the habitat healthy and gives the animals better quality of life without disease and starvation being on the forefront of life, which is suffering! So if you love the cuddly bear that would rip you to sheds then maybe think about being O. K. with hunters hunting them. We are caring more for them and their habitats than your whining does or has ever done. So do everyone a favor and STFU already. You're uneducated and arguing feelings vs facts and science. Go join the DNC and be a SJW with all that prejudice noise.
The only way you can't hunt bear is over bait or long distance shooting. There's no such thing as -stalking a bear- you IDIOTS. They've been hunted for eons by ambush, sneak attack while hibernating (now there's an argument, or long distance. You don't go looking for an animal like this by stalking and fully expect to live or be successful unless you have mental problems or you live on your own planet.

I know the feeling Chris, I was skunked on Turkey this year. only got out 4 times and of course hens were in punching distance but the Toms were too smart. That-s hunting though and I still enjoyed being out in nature. Hunting is not easy, and not cheap, but it-s by far the most sustainable and rewarding way to acquire meat. When I ran out of goose meat this winter I felt bad going to the store and buying chicken. I think our society often has it backwards, we should be shaming those who participate in factory farming, not those who lawfully harvest an animal from nature. It-s a difficult subject though because not everyone has the ability to participate in hunting and fishing.

You'd pretty much want to dispatch it with a single clean shot or you would have up to 500 - 800 pounds of bone, muscle, claw and tooth bounding after you wanting to tear a limb or two off of you.
Anyway, there's no such thing as original sin, it's a concept religious men came up with to make people feel ashamed for simply being human. Besides, if original sin existed the god character must be the most vile repulsive thing to ever exist, the Testaments could back me up on it.

it's a real bummer that we were not able to connect on a bear. We all put a lot of effort into this, but i guess that is what hunting is all about. No guarantee's when out hunting, fishing, or trapping. I went out yesterday after work to have a look and the bait had not been hit. Thanks for coming up and sitting all those hours (20 plus hours) in the stand. We gave it a good go, and unfortunately, the out come was not what we had hoped for. But i had a good time all the same. It was fun to hang out with you and Jeremy around the fire.

some people never grow out of what i think is a walt disney world and still see life as a half hour of cuddly wobbly playful animals who all eat make believe food and never harm or eat other animals, they don't see the hunger and suffering they go through in a sometime short and brutal lifespan. hunting over bait or not if it is done with clear respect of the animal with as little suffering as possible, the gods of the hunt would approve

Good video the bear we got is nothing but a nuisance that tear your apple trees up and destroy a patch of sweet corn quick they brought several problem bears here from smoky mountains put them here in East Tennessee dang that's like throwing a wine bottle in a jail cell lol lol kill one 3 more takes it's place

Hey man that monologue for all the haters of your videos or the offended viewers just don-t bother. You get the viewers you get and it should be no sweat off your back for the 5 percent of people who that was to. You make great content and there is no need to address the non majority so often in your videos.

My family doesn't buy meat from the grocery store other than the occasional pack of chicken we rely on hunting and fishing. We go through about 8or9 whitetail deer a year(being from Alabama our deer are smaller) and I've killed 1good buck and 3 does so I have a little more work to do til February 10th.

There is a reason human beings evolved with incisors and eyes in the front of our skulls. Without those developments we might be stuck in the prey category. Over-privileged sno-flake need to survive on their own in the wilderness for as long as it takes to correct their backward evolutionary slide.
