i see your issue right away. Its the material you're using. Use soft brass wire OR better yet get some small guage wire professional snares. You want a teardrop style loop not a circle one. That forces them down into the loop of the snare and the smoother wire helps it set FAST. Same reason i 4 coil my leg hold traps for predators. Make that trap set ASAP! 2-3 inches off the ground.

Those guys cracked me up! But seriously when hunting or trapping/snaring, scent control is everything. Most every creature in the woods rely on their sense of smell and hearing to survive, so wearing gloves and some type of scent control natural or purchased is the way to go. Remember anything you touch with bare skin leaves your human scent on it.

Honestly I-d say the snare was the right size but rather the wire material. Maybe use a different more loose type of wire. Sometime the rigidity can work against you. Also, you don-t want to leave your scent anywhere near the snare, so I-d recommend using gloves when you-re setting/checking traps.

Looks like your loop needs to slip closed on your prey's neck more easily. There's plenty of videos out there on how to properly set them so as soon as your target puts it's head through and touches the snare it slides closed around their neck.

In this case I use two different types of snares. Use a trip snare just before your hanging snare which will be your decoy. Is if the rabbit jump throw you snare they get snatched up by the trip snare. -

This is great. I used some professional wire snares from a trapping company. But every morning when I check them the ones that caught have already been eaten! Set up a trail cam and it-s a possum!

why they are getting through is ur snare is not working freely enough make sure its set like at 2 pm or 10 am not right at the top it really makes a big difference on the slide of the snare.

They're smelling your snare. I always pull the snare back and forth around a tree before I set it(preferably a sappy one) and it mask the smell. works like a charm
