My experience with live traps out in the woods like you have them. They work better when they are partly covered by branches or between logs. It-s a little more natural to the animal to be going between logs or a -tunnel- under brush than just the cage in the wide open.

Thanks Chris, Just want to say I don't like the inside of your cabin, It doesn't look right with the wall dry lined and so uniform, So strange to have plastered walls where the cabin is(or mud as you say) Sorry. you have worked so hard: )

Bloody Rugers lol i have a lithgow arms crossover im putting 10 rounds in under 20 mm at 100 yards, admittedly bench rested, and you would not want to carry the dam thing lol but come on! im not even feeding myself with it!

What do you do when nature calls? Plan on building an outhouse? I have an off grid cabin as well (Quebec, have to talk to the township about rules regarding outhouses cause I'm close to running water.

Use CB Long ammo for the Rueger 10-22. I have the same rifle. Mine is 24 years old and with those CB rounds it is as quiet as a pellet gun. The squirrels won't hear the shot.

Another thing to consider for the lack of deer is pressure to much human scent or movement in a little area can move deer or make them nocturnal
