Bass fishing in Cornwall has been at its finest recently, I have had some of the best bass fishing I've seen for a long time in the last 2 weeks. Bass are fantastic fish to catch. I love bass of any size, such a stunning looking fish and fight with such attitude. Here I fish with a new type of lure (it-s 2nd proper outing) a Pearl Skerries eel from Sidewinder and it was absolutely killer! Matched up with my Nomura rod and Abu cardinal spinning reel I fish some patches of reef and had a great mornings sport. I have been asked to provide a link to the lures I was using

My all-time favourite lure is the Sidewinder pearl eel, but I'm surprised to see it working so well in bright sunny conditions. We normally go out in dull and rougher seas, and the pearls do really well. Recently I used a much larger lure (can't remember if it was a sidewinder or not) in speckled green/silver, and let it sink down lower just off some rocks with extremely rough water about, and hooked up two lovely Bass of over 7 lbs. I find the pearls do well in darker conditions. In brighter skies/waters I find the darker lures work better. But hey! You caught a load there!

Great video there John - thanks! Just one question (well two really: -) how deep is the water and how deep do you fish the lure? We have a lot of rocky reefs around here where the avg depth is only about 40 odd ft and the reefs rise up to 25. I have difficulty getting that sort of lure below about 10ft and I suspect the fish are closer to the rocks. I have used a metal lure to get it down or gone for fish which are splashing on the surface (not over the reef tho. Cheers

Great video as usual, you really are a great fisherman!
One thing I would like to suggest, I watch lots of videos on woodwork and other subjects, in those videos they put links to the equipment used so people can purchase the same items. I know it takes time but it is of great benefit to viewers. Also you will get offers of sponsorship from the producers of the products. I fish on marks close to Plymouth sound. Keep up the great work.

Cracking Bass session, just ordered some of these lures. I have only really started having a go at plugging for Bass as we normally fish with live sandeels but they are proving very difficult to catch this year, so these Lures look fantastic so am looking forward to having a got next time I take the boat out. Its about having confidence it certain lures. Let you know how I get on and thanks for sharing this info.

Hi, I fish often down in Carrick Roads as family are from Restronguet/Mylor Bridge. Could you give me any tips on catching summer bass? Especially, when the best time of day is/regarding rising or falling tides/springs or neaps. We have a boat and I often fish out around the lighthouse as you are here. Thanks!

Bass are wonderful fish, and great eating, but doesn't it get on your wires when you see -Seabass- on a restaurant menu. they're Bass!
They run with the Grey Mullet north up the Irish Sea in late summer, but I was told there is a prohibition on private anglers taking Bass until told otherwise.

Thank you for your great videos John - picked up good tips on fish finder, launching, bass and mackeral fishing. We can keep a bass between 27- and 40- here in Nova Scotia but we mostly get small schoolies fishing from shore. Going to take some of your advice and try from the boat with lures.

Brilliant stuff! Well fished & well filmed. My family have properties near Falmouth, can-t wait to try your techniques. Catch & release, minor regulated-harvest, is the only way forward for the U. K. to regain it-s marine ecosystem, which might only be 30yrs in some fisheries.

Watching as much as I can - the sound of the sea - watching you grin ear to ear - thanks for posting these John - I'll be doing some fishing this summer when camping - I'm a complete novice and will just be happy to get out there - gotta start somewhere aye - CHEERS!

Great video John. I picked up a pack of the pearl skerries eel's last week and had a 70cm bass Friday and 2 40cm bass this morning. I only got out for an hour and a half each trip so not too bad. Nice one for the tips keep up the good work! -
