In the US, we use a gauge to measure for size. It's just a small, flat piece of plastic or metal that is slightly longer than legal size. A notch is cut out in the middle that is legal size. This leaves a hook or pin at each end. You hook one in the back of the eye socket and if the second pin is past the end of the carapace it's short, if not, it's a keeper. Not a big deal, but would seem a little easier than a tape measure.

Can't wait until Friday for my seafood order to ship in overnight. Don't worry, I'm quite happy eating a really lovely salad with lettuce
grown from my garden for dinner and watching this. First Harvest video was up the other day, but today was my second (not filmed) harvest.
Homegrown lettuce is so awesome due to the freshness, so I might continue to see it through the growing season. But. still craving
seafood!

Great video as usual John.
A couple of questions for you.
(1) edible crab - male or female if buying from fishmonger and why?
(2) The 2 lobster limit per day - what would stop you / someone putting any extras back in the pot and reshooting to collect another day?
Cheers Phil. Manchester -

Totaly understand John. Nothing like catching fish on your home made rigs. Tackle shops are expensive. I even make my own weights. Once you're bought all the lead and molds. It works out a lot cheaper as well. I thought about making lobster pot. But bit difficult casting one out. No boat now. lol

On the Norfolk Broads, inland water way it is patrolled by the Broads Authority daily obviously more difficult at sea. You are so honest and advocate sustainability but wondered how the bylaws are enforced at sea as sadly not everyone shares you honourable ethos?

Love the conservationally minded attitude!
Was wondering if there were rules on who fishes where, and is it an unwritten rule amongst you fishermen to respect other people's locations?
If not how do you guys claim an area to fish John? --
