In late June of 2018 my group and I traveled to Blackmur's Otherside River Lodge on Lake Athabasca in far northern Saskatchewan.
I was there the same week two years previously and enjoyed an incredible trip, so expectations were high for this one.
This year the water was 4 feet higher, much cooler and weed growth was sparse. It was a complete contrast to my first trip there and I had to adapt.
As you'll see we caught large numbers of trophy sized northern pike, and that was in a week where we faced very strong east winds every single day.
Larger lake trout were a bit slow for us on this trip, but we did catch plenty of trout in the 6-7 pound class. Lack of success was mostly attributed to our inability to fish the water we wanted to because of the wind.
The lodge was excellent and as usual our hosts Cliff and Stella Blackmur were fantastic.
All in all it was an outstanding trip. It's rare that I'll return to the same facility twice, but Blackmur's is so good I expect I'll be returning often!
