In this unique Fish-n Canada episode Angelo Viola and Pete Bowman team up with Ontario tourism and bring over a group of professional anglers from England to sample Ontario-s amazing Carp fishing pigeonsniper: Biggest problem with Carp fishing in Canada is getting gear, and the price of that gear. Local shop had Rods on website for sale in Fall of 2018. I ordered two in September of 2018. The shop called me October of 2019 that they had come in. In the mean time I found a Small Chain in the GTA that imports direct from Asia. Not only was I able to get rods( same Manufacturer) and gear, but I was able to choose from a selection that was four or five times better then anything -North American- suppliers had. The price difference was enough to make you cry. The same rods I was buying from the small store chain for $100 to $120, were listed at $200 to $300 (US) by the North American suppliers. I will drive the four hour round trip to the small store chain, any day, every day, all day before I deal with local shops now. I can stock up on gear, rods and reels at the small store chain for what I would pay for one (1) rod at the local store.
We have World class Carp waters in Ontario and Canada, but the retailers are going to price people out of the sport before they can even start. A low end rod and reel from the local shops are going to cost you $400 to $600Cdn. Not a price that will encourage people to try something new.
