Just want to say thanks for the video. I have been fishing since my grandmother let me hold her cane pole and taught me how to put a worm on a hook in 1945. My work has taken me to many, many countries, but only rarely did I get a day to fish. Only in the last ten years of the 80 that God has let me live on this earth did I have the time and opportunity to work with a professional guide and do some serious trout fishing here in Western NC. Fishing without a guide is like playing any sport without a coach. Now I am confident that I can catch fish most days instead of 'wish fishing' without knowing which end of the rod the line comes out of. These videos are really wonderful. Thanks again.

Excellent video! I-ve had good success with wooly buggers but primarily in still water on an intermediate sink tip. As Bob said in the video they seem to strike when the fly is falling. I like holographic purple body with black hackle and tail. In rivers I like Kelly Gallup-s Circus Peanut or Zoo Cougar fished down stream as opposed to cross or up current. A second option is to dead drift cross current into undercut banks or cover and then make a fast retrieve after a few feet of drift. Interested in other successful strategies, retrieves, streamers etc. Most of my fishing is in CA and UT.

Last summer on the Truckee river on the CA side I was stalking along a grassy bank and spooked a big brown but he didn't go far. Waited a few minutes and this fish was under my feet! So I crouched down, made a short cast and like something out of a movie he slowly rose up to my Royal humpy dry fly. I measured the fish at 22. 5 inches. Biggest fish I caught on a fly rod. Also landed an 18- rainbow that evening on the same fly.

A magic place in the US. Regret not fishing in this state while cycling the Trans-American Cycle trail in 1980 shortly after Mt. St Helens erupted. I am now an old guy living on American memories and the wonderful people I met. I fish weekly on in my wilderness steams down-under in NZ. I enjoyed your enthusiastic informative video. Recently I was fishing with larger streamers and The guy I was with said I should not set the hook by lifting the rod with streamers that I should line set. I did miss a very large brown that took my streamer by lifting. Any suggestions?
